Anime fans in North America will soon have a chance to experience Ninja Scroll on the big screen in a new 4K presentation. HIDIVE and Iconic Events Releasing have announced a three-day limited theatrical run for Yoshiaki Kawajiri’s influential 1993 samurai action film, with screenings scheduled across the United States and Canada.

The Ninja Scroll 4K theatrical release will take place on October 4, October 5 and October 7, with tickets already available for participating theaters. The release marks a major opportunity for fans to see the classic anime in theaters following an extensive restoration supervised by Kawajiri himself.

The remastered film will be shown in approximately 600 theaters, with both English-subtitled and English-dubbed presentations available during the three-day event. The October 7 screening will serve as an encore presentation, although the format will vary depending on the theater.

Ninja Scroll 4K Restoration and Theater Schedule

The new Ninja Scroll version was produced by AMC Global Media’s Sentai and underwent an extensive restoration process. The original 35mm negative was scanned at 4K resolution, producing a 3840 × 2160 digital source before individual frames were repaired for damage and subjected to color correction.

The restoration was supervised by director Yoshiaki Kawajiri, helping preserve the visual presentation of the landmark samurai anime while preparing it for modern theatrical screens. The resulting archival-quality digital master will give audiences an opportunity to experience Kawajiri’s distinctive animation at a higher resolution than previous home-video presentations.

The theatrical schedule begins on Sunday, October 4, with the English-subtitled version. Monday, October 5 will feature the English dub, while Wednesday, October 7 will offer an encore screening with subtitles or dubbing depending on the participating theater.

Ninja Scroll follows Jubei, a wandering ninja who saves a young ninja woman from danger. What initially appears to be an isolated encounter draws him into an investigation surrounding the mysterious deaths of an entire village.

As Jubei and his companion pursue the truth, they uncover a conspiracy involving supernatural forces. The investigation puts them against enemies determined to prevent the pair from exposing what happened.

Tickets are currently on sale through the official theatrical release website, while participating theater box offices will also offer tickets subject to local availability. The October engagement is particularly notable for longtime anime fans because the restored 4K version is being positioned as a limited theatrical event rather than a standard wide release.
