007 First Light has made an impressive debut in the U.S. market, topping the country’s monthly video game sales charts for May 2026 and quickly becoming one of the year’s biggest commercial successes.

According to Circana executive director and video game industry analyst Mat Piscatella, the newly released James Bond title was the best-selling game in the U.S. during May based on physical and full-game digital dollar sales.

Piscatella also confirmed that the game has already climbed to No. 4 on the year-to-date sales chart, despite launching only recently. In another milestone, 007 First Light led all titles in PlayStation full-game dollar sales during May, making it the strongest-performing PlayStation release of the month.

Sharing the latest Circana data on Bluesky, Piscatella wrote,

“007 First Light was May’s leader in full game dollar sales, debuting as the 4th best-seller of 2026 year-to-date. It also led all titles in full game dollar sales on PlayStation platforms in the month.”

New releases dominate May’s sales rankings

May proved to be a strong month for new releases, with several major launches occupying the upper half of the sales chart.

According to Circana’s projected rankings, 007 First Light secured the No. 1 position, followed by Forza Horizon 6 in second and LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight in third. Subnautica 2 debuted at No. 4, while Yoshi and the Mysterious Book rounded out the month’s new releases at No. 8.

The remainder of the top ten featured established titles that continued to sell strongly, including Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, MLB: The Show 26, Crimson Desert, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, and Mario Kart World.

The strong debut also makes 007 First Light the highest-selling James Bond game in franchise history based on full-game dollar sales, highlighting continued interest in the iconic spy series.

While 007 First Light dominated May, the overall 2026 sales race continues to be led by Resident Evil Requiem, which retained its position as the year’s best-selling game in the U.S.

Crimson Desert remained second on the year-to-date chart, followed by MLB: The Show 26. Thanks to its successful launch, 007 First Light entered directly at No. 4, ahead of Forza Horizon 6 in fifth place. Other titles in the year-to-date top ten include Pokemon: Pokopia, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, WWE 2K26, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7.

The rankings suggest that 2026’s biggest launches are quickly reshaping the annual sales chart, with several recent releases already breaking into the top ten.

Console content spending continues to grow

Alongside the software rankings, Piscatella reported continued growth in U.S. video game spending during May. Total console content spending increased 25% year over year, making consoles the primary driver of market growth for the month.

PC game content spending also posted healthy gains, rising 15% compared to May 2025, while subscription spending increased 11%.

Piscatella noted,

“Console drove content spending growth in May. Total spending on console content increased by 25% compared to a year ago and is now 13% higher year-to-date. PC content (+15% versus a year ago) and subscription spending (+11%) also grew in May.”

With a chart-topping debut, record-setting franchise sales, and a place among the year’s best-selling games, 007 First Light has established itself as one of 2026’s biggest video game launches only weeks after release.
