Netflix has officially canceled Building the Band after just one season, bringing an end to the music competition series that gained global attention for featuring one of Liam Payne’s final television appearances before his death. While the streaming service declined to comment publicly, a source confirmed the cancellation to Deadline.

Produced by Remarkable Entertainment, Building the Band challenged 50 singers to form bands without seeing one another, placing the focus entirely on vocal chemistry. The series featured Payne as a mentor alongside Nicole Scherzinger and Kelly Rowland, while AJ McLean served as host.

The show’s live finale was filmed in Manchester in August 2024. Two months later, Payne died after falling from a hotel balcony in Argentina, and Netflix dedicated the series to his memory when it premiered.

Although the series won’t return for a second season, its finalists—3quency, SZN4, Soulidified, and Midnight Til Morning—have continued their music careers by releasing original songs and touring after the show’s debut.
