Pearl Abyss has not revealed the theme of the first major Crimson Desert expansion, but recent discoveries in the game have led players to believe that the DLC could take the action into new coastal and underwater areas.
The official Crimson Desert team previously confirmed that an expansion is in development, saying it is being prepared as “a meaningful addition to your journey,” while keeping its specific content under wraps.
Players have noticed several unusual changes following recent updates. These include new underwater vegetation, altered sandy coastlines, and refinements to areas beyond Pywel’s currently explorable boundaries.

One of the most interesting discoveries involves the area known by the community as South Island, which appears to be receiving additional development. Players have also spotted changes to the sea near the northern desert and a previously unnoticed submerged island east of the existing map.
None of these environmental changes confirm a maritime DLC, and Pearl Abyss has not announced naval gameplay or a new island region. However, the timing has encouraged speculation that the studio may be laying the groundwork for its first major expansion.
If the theory proves accurate, Crimson Desert’s DLC could significantly expand exploration in Pywel by introducing more ocean-focused locations and gameplay. For now, players will have to wait for Pearl Abyss to reveal what the upcoming expansion will actually include.
