Gamescom Dev 2026, where the developer will host an invited presentation focused on the game’s ambitious world-building technology. The session is scheduled for August 24 at Koelnmesse in Germany.

The presentation, titled “Crimson Desert: How We Filled the Vast Continent of Pywel & Scaling Open World Creation with an In-House Engine,” will explore the development process behind the game’s massive environment and technical systems.

Pearl Abyss Details Crimson Desert’s World-Building Technology

The Gamescom Dev presentation will feature Pearl Abyss developers, including Art Level Head Ahn Geun-tae and Game Engine Graphics Leads Kim Jin-hwan and Yoon Jin-ho. The team will explain how it created Pywel, the fantasy continent where Crimson Desert takes place.

The session will cover environment design methods, terrain creation inspired by real-world landscapes, production automation, and techniques used to make exploration feel natural within the open world.

Pearl Abyss will also showcase its proprietary BlackSpace Engine, highlighting features such as real-time world changes, atmospheric rendering, procedural terrain generation, and systems for placing vegetation and objects across large environments.

The game has already gained significant attention, reportedly reaching 6 million global sales within three months of launch. It also ranked among the top-selling games in the U.S. during 2026 and achieved strong Steam revenue performance among new intellectual properties.

Following Gamescom Dev, Pearl Abyss will present Crimson Desert at Gamescom 2026 from August 26 to August 30 with a booth created alongside Samsung Electronics.
