Paul Rutman’s latest addition to Apple TV’s crime thriller collection is an intriguing tale set in contemporary London. With Peter Capaldi, a four-time Academy Award winner, and Cush Jumbo in the lead roles, Criminal Record is set to be a limited series.
Criminal Record revolves around a DCI and a Detective Sergeant who end up crossing paths after a mysterious phone call leads them to work on the same murder case. While neither of them knows why they were the ones to be contacted, they know there’s much more to the case than just plain murder.
Daniel Hegarty and June Lenker try to solve a complex case that has them questioning their values and views on issues like racism, institutional failure, and working in a polarized environment. Criminal Record not only shows two detectives trying to solve the case from their perspective, but it also showcases the battle between a seasoned veteran and a newly hired detective.
Besides Capaldi as Daniel and Cush in the role of June, the rest of the cast of Criminal Record consists of Stephen Campbell playing Leo, Charlie Creed-Miles as Tony, Shaun Dooley plays Kim, and Aysha Kala stars in the role of Sonya Singh. Cathy Tyson from Mona Lisa will also be joining the cast of this drama.
Criminal Record: About The Show
Taking place in London, the storyline is all about an unexplainable murder case that leads detectives June Lenker and Daniel Hegarty to get involved in the same case but have conflicting judgments throughout the investigation.
While Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Hegarty is aged and experienced enough to know how these cases usually unfold, all of his views are put to the test when Detective Sergeant June Lenker joins him in his investigation.
Lenker may be a newbie at the office and have significantly less experience than Hegarty, but she is by no means a bad detective. Through her hard work and passion for solving strange murder cases, Lenker was able to climb much higher in her career and become a detective sergeant at a young age.
Both of them are great at what they do, but when they start working on a murder case and try to find out if the culprit is guilty, that’s when they start having issues and see things from a different perspective.
Hegarty is practical and straightforward, while Lenker tries to look beyond things and often thinks out of the box to solve her cases. Together, they’ll be trying to solve a London murder case and bring justice to a devastated family. Issues like discrimination, the failure of police to judge people correctly and various other problems will be the focus of the series.
Criminal Record Episode 1: Release Date
The new British crime series will start airing on January 10th, 2024. Except for the first two episodes, new suspenseful episodes of Criminal Record will be coming out on Fridays. The duration of the episodes is yet to be revealed, but judging by the usual run time of crime shows, they could last anywhere around 25-30 minutes.

Apple TV+ will be hosting all of the intriguing episodes of Criminal Record, and new ones will be uploaded on the platform at around 3:00 AM for viewers from the US. For now, only Apple TV+ will be hosting the episodes of Criminal Record and viewers from other regions might have to use a VPN to access these episodes.
