PBS’s much-awaited show, Craft In America, is going to come back with new kinds of art forms from all over the US. People like Schroeder Cherry, Mark Murphy, and others will be a part of this new season.
Craft In America brings all kinds of art that are popular in the country to light, including things like cute little miniatures, generational jewelry makers, quilts, music, and other art forms that continue to influence both the old and the young.
While art is widespread in cities and countryside, there wasn’t a show that was completely dedicated to talking about it, and with Craft In America, PBS continues to bring lesser-known pieces of art and talented artists into the spotlight. This way, the artists and the art can gain the attention they deserve.
Every season of Craft in America may just have 2 episodes, but that doesn’t mean it lacks anything worth seeing. Instead, each completely breaks down a different handmade art form. This time around, we’ll be having a look at miniature art, an interesting type of creation that requires extreme attention to detail and limitless creativity.
Puppeteers and their ways of making us laugh make the world a better place, but the hard work, imagination, and planning that go behind them remain unnoticed. If we’re lucky, we just might see these puppeteers working on their next big project, too.
Recap
In season 14, this PBS series focused on things that create inspiration within us. It featured many experienced personalities and their fascinating works of art. Revealing the magic of human art and just how much it can impact people, the “Inspiration” episode started with the Saar family, known for their legendary pieces.
Consisting of Betye Saar, Alison Saar, and Maddy Leeser, this family had been in the news for a while after their art became popular at museums in the US. Now almost 100 years old, Betye Saar is an assemblage artist, a person who usually uses different mediums like prints, photos, and paintings to create something stunning.
Her autobiographical assemblage, “Black Girl’s Window,” which was created in 1969, is undeniably one of the most inspiring pieces in the category. The episode featured other artists like Simon Rodia, Watts Towers, Diedrick Brackens, and Ayumi Horie, all of whom were masters of their art.
Chef Yia Vang, the head chef and founder of Union Hmong Kitchen, was a part of Craft In America season 14, too. This season showed all kinds of home decor and interior designs that weren’t just there to fill up space. Designers like Biskakone Greg Johnson, Syd Carpenter, Sim Van der Ryn, and others were featured in the 2nd episode.
