Christopher Judge has clarified that his recent criticism of Amazon’s upcoming God of War series was not an attempt to campaign for the live-action role of Kratos. The actor, who has voiced and performed Kratos in God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarök, recently addressed speculation surrounding his comments after questioning Amazon’s decision not to bring more of the original game’s creative team into the adaptation.

During a Fan Expo panel, Judge argued that studios adapting successful video games should make greater use of the writers and developers who helped build those franchises. His comments were particularly focused on Amazon’s God of War series and HBO’s The Last of Us, with Judge questioning why established game creatives are sometimes left out when their work is being translated to television.

Judge later clarified that he was not suggesting he should replace the actor playing Kratos. Instead, he said his point was about recognizing the people who spent years creating the worlds being adapted.

Christopher Judge Explains Why He Is Not Pursuing Live-Action Kratos

Judge’s clarification came via his X post after fans interpreted his criticism of Amazon’s God of War casting and creative decisions as a possible attempt to get himself considered for the role. He pushed back on that interpretation, explaining that his comments were directed at the broader treatment of game developers and writers.

The actor also acknowledged that his age makes taking on the physically demanding live-action role less realistic. Judge joked that his children remind him he is “old as balls” while discussing the possibility of playing Kratos on screen.

Rather than focusing on himself, Judge said he wants adaptations to respect the people responsible for creating the original material. His comments specifically questioned why Amazon’s production did not bring in the original God of War writers, despite their extensive experience with the franchise.

Amazon’s God of War series is being developed as a live-action adaptation of the 2018 game, following Kratos and Atreus during their journey through the Norse realms. Amazon’s official announcement confirmed that Ronald D. Moore serves as showrunner, writer, and executive producer, while original God of War voice actor Alastair Duncan is returning as Mimir.

The series has also experienced a major casting change. Ryan Hurst, who was originally cast as Kratos, suffered a serious bicep injury during production and subsequently exited the role, with reports indicating that Amazon is considering Dave Bautista as his replacement.

For now, Judge has not confirmed any involvement in Amazon’s series. His comments instead appear to reflect his broader belief that successful adaptations should maintain a stronger connection to the creators and performers who established their source material.
