The manga series Tomodachi Game, created by Yuki Sato based on Mikoto Yamaguchi’s original concept, will conclude with its 26th volume set for release in Fall 2024.
This announcement came alongside the release of volume 25 on May 9, 2024. The manga, which debuted in 2013 in Kodansha’s Bessatsu Shonen Magazine, has garnered significant popularity over its eleven-year serialization.
Tomodachi Game follows Yuuichi Takagiri and his friends—Tenji Mikasa, Makoto Shibe, Shiho Sawaragi, and Yutori Kokorogu—through a gripping tale of betrayal and tests of friendship.
Tomodachi Game Manga Comes to an End
The story kicks off when their school trip is canceled due to funds going missing, leading to their isolation by classmates. The situation worsens when they are lured into a meeting and robbed by unidentified individuals, awakening in a mysterious white room with a character from a canceled children’s show, Manabu-kun.
Manabu-kun explains that someone in the group orchestrated their gathering to settle a substantial debt. To clear this debt, they must engage in a series of friendship-testing games. As the games progress, secrets and betrayals emerge, challenging Yuuichi’s understanding of his friends and their relationships.
The series’ popularity surged with an anime adaptation in April 2022, produced by Okuruto Noboru, renowned for its psychological thriller elements and fluid animation. Previously, Tomodachi Game was adapted into a television drama in June 2017 and a live-action film, which received mixed reviews.
With 25 volumes already released, the upcoming 26th volume will wrap up the story later in 2024. Despite its initial hiatus in December 2019 and subsequent breaks, Tomodachi Game’s fan base has continued to grow, fueled by its nice plot and character dynamics.
