Recap
We get to know two brothers, Kang Bo-geol and Kang Woo-hak, who live with the quaint Kang family. Bo-geol is the responsible, hardworking one, and Woo-hak, well, let’s say he’s more of a free spirit, preferring to stay half-naked with wild hair. They are like chalk and cheese. The episode was set up by their sibling arguments about who gets to use which room.
As the story progresses, Woo-hak chooses to accompany Bo-geol on his volunteer journey. Where were they going? An abandoned island that they have to tidy up. But in keeping with Woo-hak’s persona, he would rather fly his drone than clean. This is the island where our heroine, Mok-ha, lives; it seems to be abandoned.
Upon coming across Woo-hak’s drone, Mok-ha’s life takes an abrupt turn. She follows it because she is curious, and this leads to an unexpected reunion. In his haste to get his renegade drone back, Woo-hak trips over Mok-ha. They never saw this event coming, but it will permanently alter their lives.
Once again on the mainland, Woo-hak documents Mok-ha’s story, which furthers the plot. She has been confused by the changes in the world during the past 15 years of being alone on the island. She’s not just confused by smartphones and fast internet; she’s confused by society’s whole shift.
When Mok-ha notices a banner with her idol, Ran-joo, on it and demands to take a detour to look into it, things become even more intriguing. A significant aspect of Mok-ha’s past is revealed by this decision: she left the island to see Ran-joo, her idol. But Mok-ha has a particular place in her heart for Ran-joo, so this is more than simply a fangirl’s fantasy.
They continue their journey, arriving back at Mok-ha’s hometown of Chunsum Island, which has undergone drastic transformations. There is now a new eatery headed by someone else in place of her family’s fish bar. The new proprietors are inhospitable, asserting that they have the right to take over the business because Mok-ha has been officially pronounced dead.
However, Woo-hak intervenes to make things right. He discloses that Mok-ha is the rightful owner of the location and is still very much alive. As the difficult situation lessens, Mok-ha’s attention turns to locating her long-lost friend Ki-ho. Unaware that Ki-ho might still be alive, she makes her way to his former residence.
We discover that Ki-ho has had a difficult history as the puzzle pieces fit together. His father was fired as a result of the domestic abuse report he made against him. He disappeared without a trace after that, and his father has been looking for him ever since.
Mok-ha has no choice but to face the past and depart from the island in her quest to find Ki-ho. Though worried for her safety, Woo-hak is unable to talk her out of it. He gives her the opportunity to live out her goals in Seoul by covertly offering her a place to stay in an empty rooftop apartment.
