BBC’s Call The Midwife is out with a new season and Sister Julienne & the others have already started handling a bunch of complicated cases in town. The medical drama returns with Jenny Agutter, Judy Parfitt, Helen George, and others playing the lovely and compassionate midwives of Nonnatus House.
Call The Midwife follows a group of midwives who work at a nursing convent called the Nonnatus House and treat injuries, help in childbirth, treat infections and other such medical cases. The Poplar district the nurses work in is poor and filled with disease, so these nurses play a major role in controlling disease and bringing good health back to Poplar.
The series first started based on Memoirs of Jennifer Worth, but the show’s plot goes way beyond the memoires and becomes more intriguing with each season. Various eras like the 60s, ’70s, ’80s, and others have been medically analyzed and portrayed on Call The Midwife.
The returning cast members for Call The Midwife are Jenny Agutter as Sister Julienne, Judy Parfitt plays the role of Sister Monica, Helen George plays Nurse Beatrix, Laura Main plays Shelagh, Stephen McGann plays Dr. Patrick, Cliff Parisi plays Fred and Linda Bassett plays the role of Nurse Phyllis Crane. The new midwives are Renee Bailey as Joyce and Natalie Quarry as Rosalind.
Recap
The midwives sit down for a feast and the table is filled with comfort food to ease the minds of these hardworking nurses. A new set of midwives join the Nonnatus House and Rosalind happens to show up very late. She makes up for being late by revealing interesting stories about her life before coming to Poplar.
Sister Julienne warns them about smoking in their rooms. Dr. Patrick and his son have a cheerful dinner and talk about updates in the medical world. The other midwives take the new nurses outside and teach them how to ride a bike properly. They’re then taught about the important instruments they’d have to always carry on themselves for first aid and other uses.
A new patient shows up at the Nonnatus House, who has cerebral palsy and is going to give birth soon. Meanwhile, other midwives are busy taking care of heavily pregnant ladies all over Poplar. The woman with cerebral palsy is informed that she is going to give birth sooner than she first expected, within the next two weeks.
However, things weren’t the best at home, as her mother doesn’t support her at all and looks down on her for suffering from cerebral palsy. The nurses do their best to make her feel at home and give birth to a child with a loving partner by her side.
