The CBC in Canada is producing a psychological period drama called Bones of Crow, which centers on the struggles of a Cree native whose life is upended when she and her siblings are taken from their home, culture, and way of life in the 1940s to aid in the war effort.

Bones of Crows Episode 1 Recap
In the debut episode of this show, we are presented with the main protagonists of the series and set the stage for what’s coming ahead. Firstly, Aline Spears is a Cree native, a tribe in Canada. She plays the piano and does it quite well. We’re in the middle of World War II, and Canada is in the process of helping the Allies in the war effort against the enemy.
There’s a secret program that involves the use of tribespeople in radio communications; the idea is that they talk in their native languages, so the enemy whose signal interception efforts are thwarted. But there are a few natives willing to cooperate, and the government is forcing them to do so.
The relationships between the natives and the authorities haven’t been good in years; during the consolidation of Canada, many were treated unfairly, their lands taken, and many paid with their lives in that occupation. Still, Aline was taken from her family, their land was confiscated —again—and now, a once piano prodigy is now sending messages back and fro helping the Allies in the war effort.
Jump forward a bunch of years, and Aline and her husband Adam Wallach, now having experienced those kinds of traumas, are supporting each other and seeking to get some just retribution for the abuses they experienced at the hands of the authorities that transformed them forever.
