Valorware has officially announced that Boil Cabbage Make Soup, its charming idle desktop companion game, will launch on Steam on August 12. Designed as a relaxing background experience, the game lets players manage a busy onion chef who automatically grows cabbages and cooks soup while sitting on the edge of their desktop. To celebrate the release, the developer is also introducing a crossover with Ropuka’s Idle Island, bringing the beloved frog character Ropuka into the game as a special guest customer.

Launching with a limited-time introductory price of $2.99, the cozy idle title aims to stand out in the growing desktop companion genre by combining passive progression, extensive customization, and online multiplayer. Players will also encounter familiar creatures from Valorware’s 9th Dawn universe, creating another connection to the studio’s expanding lineup of games.

A Cozy Desktop Companion With Plenty to Do

Unlike traditional idle games that occupy the entire screen, Boil Cabbage Make Soup is designed to sit neatly on the desktop while players work, browse, or play other games. The player’s onion chef automatically farms cabbages, prepares soup, and earns gold that can be invested into faster production and new upgrades.

Customization is a major part of the experience. Players can decorate their floating soup island with different themes while dressing their onion in a variety of outfits. The game also includes multiple soundtrack options featuring music from 9th Dawn III and 9th Dawn Remake, complete with pitch-shift and reverb settings to create either a relaxing or adventurous atmosphere.

Adding even more personality, a variety of quirky customers from the 9th Dawn series will visit the island looking for a bowl of soup.

One of the game’s most distinctive features is its built-in online multiplayer support. Players can connect with up to two friends, visit each other’s islands, and receive exclusive bonuses for playing together—a feature rarely found in idle desktop games.

To mark the Steam release, Valorware is also bringing Ropuka, the frog protagonist from Ropuka’s Idle Island, into the game as a guest customer. Players who serve the special visitor will receive bonus cabbages, helping accelerate soup production and progression.

Developer Tom Au has also shared a new developer diary discussing the inspiration and creative process behind the project, giving players an early look at how the cozy desktop companion came to life.

Boil Cabbage Make Soup launches on Steam on August 12 with a 25% launch discount, reducing the price from $3.99 to $2.99 until August 26. After the promotional period ends, the game will return to its standard retail price.

Players can also save more through two discounted Steam bundles featuring other cozy idle experiences:

  • Ropuka’s Idle Island
  • Tiny Monster Haven

Developed by UK-based studio Valorware, best known for the 9th Dawn RPG series, Pinku Kult: Hex Mortis, Flewfie’s Adventure, and Throne Quest Deluxe, Boil Cabbage Make Soup expands the studio’s catalog with a lighthearted idle experience that blends passive gameplay, social features, and charming desktop interactions.
