The announcement of Diablo 5 at BlizzCon 2026 raised an obvious question for players still invested in Diablo 4: what happens to the current game once the next mainline entry arrives? Blizzard has now offered some reassurance, confirming that Diablo 4 seasons will continue even after Diablo 5 becomes the franchise’s new flagship release.
Diablo 4 Seasons Will Continue After Diablo 5
Speaking to Icy Veins, Diablo 4 game director Brent Gibson explained that Blizzard intends to keep supporting seasonal content for as long as there is a player base interested in returning.
“We are planning on supporting seasons as long as the community continues to show up for D4.”
Gibson compared the planned approach to the long-term support given to Diablo 2 and Diablo 3. Both games have continued receiving seasonal rotations years after their original releases, demonstrating Blizzard’s willingness to maintain older entries while moving forward with new titles.

The comments are particularly relevant because Blizzard has already confirmed that Diablo 4 will not receive another major expansion following its existing expansion plans. That makes seasonal updates the game’s primary avenue for future content once development resources increasingly shift toward Diablo 5.
Blizzard’s comparison with Diablo 2 and Diablo 3 suggests Diablo 4 could eventually enter a more sustainable form of seasonal support rather than receiving the same scale of content it currently enjoys.
Gibson added that Blizzard will continue making content while players remain engaged, saying,
“There are still people who play those games, and as long as you’re showing up, we’re going to continue to be making content.”
That does not necessarily mean Diablo 4 will receive major expansions, new regions, or extensive story campaigns indefinitely. Instead, the game could eventually adopt a lighter seasonal model as Blizzard’s development teams focus more heavily on Diablo 5.
For now, however, Diablo 4 players can expect the seasonal structure to remain part of Blizzard’s plans beyond the launch of the next mainline game.
