After waiting for so long, readers will finally get to read what happens next in Bree, a.k.a. our favorite teenager’s life.
Bloodmarked, the most anticipated sequel to the YA fantasy novel, Legendborn, is hitting the bookshelves soon, and we are sure you wouldn’t want to miss this exciting book. Legendborn was released on 15th September 2020 and soon became a YA sensation. Written by Tracy Deonn, the debut novel spent nine weeks on the New York Times Bestseller list and won a Coretta Scott King Award/ John Steptoe Award for New Talent Award.
In case you haven’t heard of this book yet, Legendborn follows a sixteen-year-old Black girl named Bree Matthews. After her mother dies in an accident, a residential program at UNC- Chapel Hill seems like a perfect escape plan to her. On her very first night on campus, she witnesses a flying demon feeding on human energies. “Legendborn” is a secret society of students that hunt these demons down.
A mysterious mage, “Merlin,” tries to wipe Bree’s memory, but he fails, unlocking Bree’s own unique magic along with a buried memory. On the night her mother died, she recalls another “Merlin” being there at the hospital. Now, she is determined to find out the truth about how her mother actually died. She recruits Nick, a self-exiled Legendborn with his own grudge against the group, to help her. But, soon, Bree learns a magical war is brewing, and she must choose which side she will be on.

Bloodmarked: Plot
Taking the story forward, Bloodmarked will now be focusing on Bree, who has become someone new: a Medium, a Bloodcrafter, A Scion. The magical war between the demons and the Order is rising to a deadly peak. Nick, the boy she fell in with, has been kidnapped. And she is also the living anchor for the spell that preserves the Legendborn cycle, which means she must be protected at any cost.
Bree wants to fight back, but she also wants to rescue the boy she loves the most. Finally, having made a decision, Bree and her friends plan to go on the run to rescue Nick, but there are enemies everywhere. If Bree wants to save herself and the people she loves, then she must learn to use her magical powers without losing herself in the process.
Legendborn: TV Adaptation
The YA fantasy novel, Legendborn is also getting a TV adaptation by Felicia D. Henderson, a writer on Gossip Girl and The Punisher. Felicia has also worked on Fringe, and Everybody Hates Chris and has co-created The Quad. Additionally, she was the showrunner of Netflix’s YA vampire series First Kill.
Nothing much has been disclosed yet, but we are really looking forward to watching the series. We are eager to see what the show makers will decide to do with the story of this teenager seeking the truth about her mother’s death. Until any news is revealed, we would be reading both the books in hopes of getting our chance to experience something magical like these stories. Filled with mystery and a magic system so intriguing, this fantasy story has already become a reader’s favorite. We can only hope it remains so even after the series is aired.
Bloodmarked: Release Date
Bloodmarked by Tracy Deonn will be released on 8th November 2022, and we couldn’t be more excited to know what happens to Bree next. Bloodmarked will be published by Simon & Schuster. Fantasy always brings us a new story filled with adventure, high stakes, superior romances between characters, and extreme world-building.
They transport us, readers, to a world that we would love to live in, even if it’s filled with monsters, as we see in Legendborn.
