Crunchyroll’s app for the original Nintendo Switch is officially set to shut down on October 30, 2026, ending nearly five years of anime streaming support on the console. Nintendo has updated its official support page to confirm the discontinuation, while users have also received emails from Crunchyroll about the upcoming closure.
The service will no longer function on Switch after the shutdown date. The Nintendo eShop listing has also reportedly been removed.
Crunchyroll Tells Switch Users to Continue Watching Elsewhere
In its message to subscribers, Crunchyroll said,
“The Crunchyroll app for Nintendo Switch will no longer be available beginning October 30, 2026.”
The company did not provide a reason for ending support.
Crunchyroll added that users can continue watching through its website, mobile app, and “more than 30 other global and regional platforms and devices” using their existing account and subscription.
The app originally launched on Nintendo Switch in February 2022, supporting TV, tabletop, and handheld modes. Eligible premium subscribers could also download episodes for offline viewing.
The closure is particularly notable because Crunchyroll has not announced a Nintendo Switch 2 version. Nintendo currently lists the original Switch app as incompatible with the newer console, while Crunchyroll’s official support page says there are no announcements about bringing the service to Switch 2.
This means Nintendo users who relied on Crunchyroll for anime streaming will need to move to another supported device after October 30.
