Discovery’s gold prospecting shows are a huge hit; that network could’ve never imagined that those unscripted reality shows about the lives of the men and women who risk life and limb in treacherous conditions to dig out some gold were, in fact, a ratings gold mine. In the case of Bering Sea Gold Season 17, that’s no exception.
This season follows Kris Kelly, Mr. Gold, and Chris McCully as they scramble with their gear and team across the treacherous, cold, and merciless waters of the Bering Sea in search of valuable metals. There’s drama; there are ego clashes. There are equipment malfunctions, problems with authorities regarding permits, and unexpected events that make this show worth watching.
It’s like suspense but real; that’s what Bering Sea Gold is. Imagine donning some diving equipment to go underwater in near-freezing temperatures to find some gold nuggets, all the while the riptides and waves crash your crew’s boat, that’s only a part of the problem. Because if you do manage to get the gold, you have to navigate back to port safely. It’s quite a ride that puts everyone on the edge of their seats!
Bering Sea Gold Season 17 Episode 2 Recap
This episode was full of intense dramatic action of high-stakes, high-tide, high-seas activity. Chris McCully took his crew and gear and sailed out for a fifteen-hour dive in freezing temperatures with a crew of three.
Things weren’t easy for that bunch at all. Treacherous waves, and fortunately, no equipment malfunction or accidents, but we could see how Kris Kelly was nerve-wracked when the waves crashed against the boat and started to fill it with water.
Meanwhile, Emily and Vernon took on the task of recruiting new, aspiring divers with no expertise but the will to learn. They show them the ropes, they had a positive attitude, and the expectations were high. Still, no gold was found in this episode.
Lastly, Mr. Gold manages to come back to Myrtle Irene to fix her, and get her up to date and ready for the challenges that the waters in the Bering Sea offer.
