Nine Network Australia produces the documentary television program Australian Crime Stories. Starring in the TV series are Adam Shand and Mark Burrows. October 3, 2016, was the premiere date of Australian Crime Stories on Nine Network. There have been five seasons thus far.
Each six-week episode will showcase the effort, devotion, and hard work that detectives put forth to solve the most difficult crimes of their careers. They will also provide viewers with never-before-seen insights into all the kinks and turns that these large-scale investigations take, from the time the crime is committed until the guilty plea or conviction.
We hear from the families involved, as well as journalists and authors who have closely followed these cases, in addition to firsthand testimony from the investigators.
ACS: The Investigators is a tribute to all police officers who serve and safeguard our community. It will tell the most amazing tales of heroic police work, including the seemingly unsolvable murder, the untouchable crime king, and the unstoppable madman.
The Jane Doe Mystery, the first episode of the show, takes you behind the scenes of the ingenious Australian police investigation headed by Michael Plotecki. During this investigation, detectives and support personnel attempted to identify the body of a young woman who had been murdered and left abandoned on a suburban street. They also worked to reconstruct the forensic record.
Recap
One of the most notorious murder mysteries in Australia is the disappearance of Juanita Nielsen. ACS looks into the three primary suspects and provides a critical answer to the question of Juanita’s murder. On the day her relationship ended, Renae Marsden committed suicide.
The heartbreaking twist and the underlying story—in which Renae’s torturer remains unpunished—are revealed by her family. He’s been called Australia’s Hannibal Lector—a killer who seizes opportunities and has unfathomable obsessions.
Is this the deadliest child murder in Australia? Revelle Balmain, a twenty-two-year-old model and dancer, disappeared in 1994. It’s still unclear what exactly transpired that evening. We follow Revelle’s last few steps again.
The horrific crime was what startled the country. A recorded murder. We look at the shocking evidence that shows Roger Rogerson and his accomplice Glen McNamara planned and carried out the cold-blooded murder of a young, gullible, aspiring gangster.
An extortionist posing as “Mr. Brown” declared in 1971 that he had planted a bomb on a Qantas flight. Prioritising passenger safety, Qantas released the $500,000 ransom. By following the money trail, we can identify “Mr. Brown” in real life.
The story of “Lawyer X” led to a Royal Commission. The lawyer who worked for 15 years as a double agent for drug lords and the police was Nicola Gobbo. Florence Broadhurst, a well-known designer, was fatally beaten with a bat at her factory in 1977.
Although she had a lot of adversaries, was she the victim of a well-known serial killer? Piece by piece, Australian Crime Stories puts the case back together. For 27 years, Dr. Colin Manock was the leading forensic pathologist in South Australia, yet he wasn’t always accurate.
A public autopsy and dubious methodology are only two of the high-level cover-ups exposed by ACS. In 1986, a vehicle bomb exploded outside the Victoria Police headquarters in Melbourne’s CBD, killing Constable Angela Taylor and injuring 22 others. ACS speaks with the investigators who tracked down the bomber using forensics as well as survivors.
Thieves stole into a bank in Chinatown, Sydney, in 1988 from a nearby building. They took jewelry, rare coins, gold bars, and large amounts of cash with them. We identify the mastermind who got away with the loot in a world exclusive.
