Apple TV+ has announced that the hit spy series Slow Horses will return for Season 6. This news arrives just after the Season 4 finale and before Season 5 has premiered. The new season will consist of six episodes, just like the earlier ones, and most of the main cast is expected to come back. Release dates for Seasons 5 and 6 have not been announced yet.
It is too early to share specific plot details for Season 6, especially since we do not know what will happen in Season 5. However, Apple TV+ has given a brief overview of the story.
Season 6 will show the Slough House agents on the run. Diana Taverner, played by Kristin Scott Thomas, will involve them in a dangerous game of revenge. Taverner’s patience with Jackson Lamb may finally run out, and she might be ready to destroy the neglected branch of MI-5.
The renewal of Slow Horses for Season 6 is surprising but not shocking. Apple TV+ has often renewed the series early, and the show is one of the highest-rated titles on the platform. All four seasons have achieved an impressive 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics believe that showrunner Will Smith and his team continue to improve with each new season.
The Author’s Support Keeps Slow Horses Strong
One important factor that helps Slow Horses maintain its quality is the involvement of Mick Herron. He is the author of the book series that inspired the show and often collaborates with the writing team.
In an interview with Collider, Will Smith mentioned that Herron “absolutely loves” the series. He also approves of the changes made from the books to the episodes and is very supportive of the writers. Herron is currently working on the ninth book in the series.
Smith also mentioned that Season 5 of Slow Horses is nearly finished. This means that work on Season 6 could begin soon. He teased that Hugo Weaving’s character, Frank Harness, returns in the novels, so viewers might see him again in future seasons, especially after the surprising events from Season 4.
