Anime recommendations would keep on getting more and more extensive as we get new anime seasons every now and then. The Spring 2022 Anime season is underway, which means that we will be getting new anime seasons soon, adding to the already existing library of the anime you can watch. This time we will go on to look at the anime like Gokushufudou that you should watch if you find it interesting.
Because Gokushufudou only ran for one Season, and as you know, things anime like this one would take a while before we get another season. So we will look at several anime like Gokushufudou that you can watch in case you did not get enough of from the first Season of Gokushufudou. Also known as The Way of The House Husband, the anime ran for two cours of five episodes each.
It was broadcasted online as a web series, and it is also available on Netflix. The Way of the House Husband anime follows the life of a former Yakuza, but he has left his Yakuza life to settle down and become a househusband. His name is Tatsu, and he used to be known as the immortal dragon back in his Yakuza days. The anime also depicts a variety of comedy as Tatsu’s household work is juxtaposed against his intimidating personality.
Horimiya
Horimiya is all about Kyouko Hori, a popular girl in high school who excels in academics despite her ostentatious appearance. She is a family-loving character, and she becomes a completely different person when she is not at school. When her workaholic parents are not around, she acts as a parent for her little brother ever since she was young. She usually doesn’t have time for the usual teenage social life as she is usually occupied with housework and taking care of her brother.
When she met Izumi Miyamura, who also doesn’t represent his true self at school, she found out that despite his appearance at school as a bookish, quiet, and possibly an otaku. She realized that she could not have been more wrong about him. When not at school, Miyamura is friendly, has many piercings, and is actually not good at studying. Their encounter and Hori’s discovery of his secrets began a new chapter in Hori’s life.

Mob Psycho 100
Mob Psycho 100 is also one of the anime like Gokushufudou that you can watch in the meantime. It is all about Shigeo Kageyama, who is in middle school and is nicknamed Mob as he lacks a sense of presence. Even though he looks like an inconspicuous person, he is a very powerful esper with immense psychic powers. He constantly lives life under an emotional shackle just so he keeps from losing control of his powers.
He learns to control his powers by working with Reigen as his assistant. Reigen is a self-proclaimed spirit medium as Mob wants to live a normal life, he puts all his trust in him despite him being a more powerful esper than Reigen. His suppressed emotions tend to grow little by little as a garage of trouble keeps coming after him. His power would threaten to break through its limits, especially when he comes across other espers.

My Teen Romantic Comedy is Wrong as Expected
My Teen Romantic Comedy anime is about the life of Hachiman Hikigaya, who is a pessimistic, realistic, and close-minded teen who was forced by his teacher to join the school’s service club. He had to work with two girls with issues of their own as well, and they also offered help and advice to each other while dealing with their inner conflicts. The anime made its debut in 2013 and has only one season with 13 episodes and one OVA.
Hikigaya and Yukino would help and advise other students despite their different personalities and ideals, and this would form part of their school’s service club. They are also assisted by Yui, who is always cheerful, and the anime largely depicts various social situations that teen face in a high school setting together with psychology that drives their interactions.

Back Street Girls: Gokudolls
This anime is similar to Gukoshufudou in that it also revolves around the life of the Yakuza. This happens after an unspecified major failure Yakuza underlings, Ryo, Kentaro, and Kazuhiko were forced by their boss to either commit suicide and sell their organs or go to Thailand and take the sex reassignment surgery and also train to become idols. This comes as a harsh lesson for them because no matter what it looks like, the best option would be the one where they will have to keep their lives
The harsh treatment like this is what sets this anime together with other anime like Gokushufudou, as the underlings ended up choosing to go to Thailand. So they made their debut as Airi, Chika, and Marie and came to be known as the Gikudolls. At first, they would suffer abuse from Inungane, their Yakuza boss, as he would frequently train them to become idols. Despite all this, their hearts still remain as Yakuza, and their brotherhood still remains strong.

Hinamatsuri
Hinamatsuri is another anime with a plot heavily influenced by the Yakuza as we saw Nitta, a mid-level Yakuza from the Ashikawa-gume, find out that his normal life was thrown into chaos. This happened when a girl from the future literally fell on his head from the sky without any warning. He did not know much about the girl except for her name, Hina. She also possessed incredible psychokinetic powers, and Yoshifumi had reluctantly become her de facto father.
Hina’s arrival managed to set off a chain reaction of events and affected everyone within the city. More girls from the future started to arrive frequently and were looking to bring her back to her original timeline or terminate her. Hinamatsuri anime has only 12 episodes and made its debut from April 2018 until June 2018. This anime was also licensed by Crunchyroll and Funimation for its episode releases.

Hyouka
Looking for more anime like Gokushufudou that you should watch? Well, the list still goes on. Next, we have Hyouka, an anime that follows Hotaro Oreki, who, at the request of his older sister, joins Kamiyama Highschool’s classic literature club as he tries to stop it from being abolished. He is also joined by fellow members Eru, Satoshi, and Mayaka. The anime storyline is set in Kamiyama city, where the anime creator is based in his hometown.
Hyouka anime has 22 episodes and only one OVA. It ran from April until September 2012, with only one Season of the anime having been released so far. It is quite extensive as it has more episodes than your usual 12 episodes a season anime, so there is a lot of action that you will get to see from this one.
Durarara
If you are looking for an anime with more mysteries and is also similar to Gukoshufudou, then you should go and check out Durarara. It is about a boy with a longing for the exciting life of the big city. He moves to Ikebukuro to attend Raira academy together with his childhood friend Masaomi Kida. They had not met since he was young, and after their meeting at a train station as, they set out and explored the streets of Ikebukuro.
Masaomi also warned Mikado about the people that he does not want to come across in the city as they are violent and have superhuman strengths. Shizuo Heiwahima, who is an information broker, Izaya Orihara, and also the mysterious gang known as the Dollars. After they ran across some side characters, Mikado saw a local legend known as the Black Rider, who travels around Ikebukuro on a black motorcycle that occasionally might look like a horse and is rumored to have no head under his helmet.

Osake wa Fuufu ni Natte Kara: Love is Like a Cocktail
Delving into the romance side of Gokushufudou anime, we have “Love is Like A Cocktail,” which is also one of the anime like Gokushufudou that you might want to check out. Also known as “Osake was Fuufu ni Natte Kara” the anime has 14 episodes that made its premiere back in October until December 2017. It is also available on Crunchyroll, and it was streamed with subtitles as the 14 episodes were released on October 6, 2018.
The story is about a 28-year-old senior staff member of the public relations Chisato Mizusawa. We get to see how she goes about her daily life as she enjoys her husband’s cocktails, and she has secrets that only her husband knows.
Sakamoto Desu Ga
Yet another anime with a lead character with a modest personality, as we saw in “The Way of The House Husband.” Sakamoto Desu Ga, or simply “Haven’t You Heard? I’m Sakamoto,” comes as one of the anime that you should check out that gives off the same vibe as Gokushufudou. Sakamoto Desu ga has 12 episodes and made its debut from April until July 2016. For now, no further news about any upcoming installment of the anime has been announced, in case you were wondering.
Sakamoto Desu Ga anime is centered around an incredibly cool and well-known Sakamoto. He is a flawless genius, and almost every student likes him, especially the school faculty, despite all the strange situations that he is usually in, including pranks set by those who envy him. He always finds ways to manage and emerge with perfection making himself look cooler. Most of his actions usually end up in big laughs from the spectators.

The Disastrous Life of Saiki Kusuo
The Disastrous Life of Saiki Kusuo anime only has 120 episodes, so it is quite a long anime if you want to follow it through to the end. It made its debut from July 2016 until December 2016 and also inspired a live-action film. It also had a six-episode prequel named The Disastrous Life of Saiki K: Reawakened that ran on Netflix from December 2019. So as one of the anime like Gokushufudou, you can check it out and see how it would compare to the other romance genres in this list.
The anime simply follows the life of Kusuo Saki, who is one of the high school students born with powers that include psychokinesis and teleportation. He would usually try and hide his power from the people at school. But he is mostly put in different scenarios where he is forced to use his powers, and it has been difficult for him to keep his powers hidden.
Tonikaku Kawaii: Over The Moon For You
This anime is known by various names, but what matters the most, for now, is that we look at the important qualities that would want to make you go and watch it after watching animes like Gokushufudou. Tonikaku Kawaii or Tonikawa: Over The Moon for you has 12 episodes and one OVA as it made its debut in October and ran until December 2020 for its first season. It is quite a short anime that you can binge and finish within a day if you really have some time.
The anime is all about Nasa Yuzaki, a boy who has a peculiar name, and on one snowy night, he encountered a beautiful girl after receiving his practice exam grades for high school. When he tried talking to her, he got distracted by her beauty and got hit by a truck. After saving him, Nasa miraculously followed her to a bus stop, where he confessed his love for her. The girl’s name was Tsukasa, and he agreed to become his girlfriend only if they got married first.
Barakamon
Barakamon anime is all about Handa, a famous Calligrapher who is still at a young age and handsome. But as a punishment for punching a famous Calligrapher, he was exiled to a small island. He has never been outside of a city, and he has to adapt to his new wacky neighbors who usually travel around on a tractor and unwanted visitors who do not use his front door, and kids who always annoy him at his home as they use it as a playground.
Barakamon is also one of the anime like Gokushufudou, and as Handa tries to adapt to this new wacky island. It always brings up a comedy full of innocence and laughter. Barakamon anime has 12 episodes and runs from July to September 2014. So far, it has only one season, and it would not take you that long to binge watch and finish all of its episodes.
Fugou Keiji: Balance Unlimited
Cloverworks managed to bring us something a bit interesting in 2020 with the adaptation of the Balance Unlimited anime. Also referred to as Fugou Keiji: Balance Unlimited, the anime made its debut in July 2020 and ran until September 2020. It was originally slated for an earlier date, but it was delayed. Balance Unlimited anime has 11 episodes and is only released in one Season.
It follows the life of a millionaire Kambe Daisuke, who is an heir to the wealthiest family in Japan. He was assigned as a detective to the Modern Crime Prevention Task Force while at the Tokyo Metro Police Department. He took full advantage of his vast family wealth and spared no expense in solving crimes. He has the tendency to evaluate and analyze everything, including individual human lives. Kato Haru, who is also a detective with a compassionate heart and believes that money isn’t everything, was set as his partner but would be usually repulsed by his materialistic attitude.
Detroit Metal City
Short anime series are interesting considering that you can watch and finish everything within a day. That is one good thing about recommendations as you will get to understand and have your opinion of them very fast. Being one of the anime like Gokushufudou, Detroit Metal City anime has 12 episodes that ran from August 2008, producing an OVA of 13 minutes each. It also inspired a live-action film which was released in the same year.
Detroit Metal City anime is about Soichi Negishi, who is a shy young musician who dreams of a pop career. He ended up as the lead singer and a guitarist in the Blackened Death Metal band known as Detroit Metal City. When on stage, he is known as Johannes Krauser II, who is rumored to be a terrorist demon from hell. Despite all this, Negishi despises Detroit Metal City and all it stands for, and he can not walk away from this role as he is the band’s psychotic frontman.
I Can’t Understand What My Husband is Saying.
One of the anime that focuses on a comedy within a household, and in a sense, it is one of the anime like Gokushufudou as they are both centered around what happens in a house where a husband and his wife live. I Can’t Understand What My Husband is Saying anime has 26 episodes, so it is a bit longer than your usual anime that has one Season with only 12 episodes. This means a bit more action for those who enjoy it, so it also comes as good news.
The anime made its debut in October and ran until June 2015. It follows the life of Karou and Hajime. Karou is a hard-working office lady, while Hajime is an otaku and an obsessed anime and manga culture fan who works as a blogger. As they use popular anime and Otaku poses and in-jokes. These characters explore different conflicts and similarities between the daily life and otaku culture in urban japan. Their witty dialogue accentuates the animation, and sometimes, it would often slip into a Manzai style.
Sakigake!! Cromartie High School
Even though we don’t have an extensive list when it comes to anime like Gokushufudou, we still have quite some anime that would even take a hardcore anime fan some time to find out. Because most people are interested in the popular shows that are action-packed, Sakigake Cromartie High School is one of those anime that, once you come across them, you would wonder where was such a good anime hiding all along.
That should be true if you happen to be an Otaku that likes Gokushufudou as well because there are picky anime fans out there. And some anime are only interested once you try them out. Because at a glance, you would think that they might not be so good. But once you try them out, you get to find out how interesting they are, and then that is when you wonder how come you have missed an anime like that as it has been around for a while. Cromartie Highschool anime is about Takashi Kamiyama, who is a kind individual, but all that changes when he enrolls in a fully delinquent high school.
The Yakuza Guide To Babysitting
A complete masterpiece and you could say it is a copy of Gokushufudou in the way that things happen. The Way of the House Husband is about a Yakuza and his wife, while The Yakuza Guide To Babysitting focuses on a Yakuza babysitter. In both these anime, the Yakuzas show their love and care for someone, which is very rare amongst the Yakuza. So even though this anime is to be released by July 2022, it perfectly fits in the list of anime like Gokushufudou.
The Yakuza Guide To Babysitting anime is about Kirishima Tooru, who is the right-hand man of the Sakaguki family that is well known for its crimes. He uses his job as a perfect excuse and lets his violent instincts out, leading to people calling him the Demon of the Sakuragi. Nothing can stand in his way, but this only remains true until one day when he receives an assignment to babysit his boss’s daughter. Now he must let go of his violent instincts and show a softer side that he would always hide in the past.
Why You Should Watch The Way of The House Husband?
Is The Way of The House Husband Worth A Watch? Well, if you need a good reason to watch The Way of the House Husband, then you should first look at what kind of an Otaku or anime fan you are. Because we have those wo watch-only action-packed anime as they enjoy how various battles and techniques play through in a fight. From this list of anime like Gokushufodou, you can see that all of them have a certain theme they follow.
A Caring figure plays a central role in most of them, and even though Gokushufudou is set from a Yakuza perspective, it combines the life that comes after that. But as a Yakuza, our main character is heavily affected by his former lifestyle and the personality that he has developed. Anime about gangs that involve a little romance is a good pick if you want to see something similar to Gokushufudou. We also have the upcoming anime that are exactly like Gokushufudou that will launch this year.
This includes “The Yakuza Guide to Babysitting,” and it is very much like Gokushufudou. The main character is a hardcore Yakuza. He left his Yakuza life to babysit, but his character has not changed. So we see a mixture of gangsterism and the caring side of the Yakuza, which are mostly defined as delinquents with no feelings or hearts at all. In Gokushufudou’s case, the Yakuza settles with his wife and becomes a househusband while his wife works.
The way that main characters from these two shows indicate the softer sides of the Yakuza as they treat their loved ones accordingly, unlike their Yakuza personality, which is the opposite of what caring and loving your family would mean. You should watch it. The Way of the House Husband anime is mostly watched by hardcore Otaku. Those who have blended in the anime and the mana community such that it has become their way of living. So this is one of the reasons people still watch The Way of the House Husband because it has a greater essence of the anime culture even if it is not action-packed like your popular anime that even a novice Otaku would know about them.
