Anime and mangas are a never-ending stream of entertainment in all genres you can think of humor, romance, slice-of-life, action, drama, fantasy, and much more. Japanese entertainment of anime and manga is available for each and every mood and emotion you wish to feel.
We’ve had a lot of recommendations coming up about high school romances, some office romances, and some medieval ones too. There’s more desire, charisma, and lure in romances that have their own way of giving us butterflies.
This time, let’s have companionship and warmth. Let’s have tenderness and endearment. One such beautiful slow-paced manga is Aikagi-Kun To Shiawase Gohan by Kuromame Mugicha. As you can guess, the premise of this manga is about food, involving people from two different walks of life. Nagisa is an approximately 30 so-year-old lady who makes meals for Hiro, a long-distance driver.
The situation may seem a bit like Nagisa is a sugar mommy to Hiro, but this story is purely a heartwarming story of two people who enjoy having a meal together.
This everyday life of an older woman and younger woman, without the heavy weight of romantic expectations, is full of care for each other and treasuring each other’s presence during dinner.
Aikagi-Kun To Shiawase Gohan Chapter 12 Recap
In the last chapter of Aikagi-Kun To Shiawase Gohan, we saw that Hiro was getting a paid vacation leave, granted to him by his employer. To celebrate his holiday, Nagisa takes out drinks to share with Hiro as they have never done so before.
Hiro mentions how he avoids drinking with his colleagues because of its taste, but Nagisa assures him that it is supposed to be paired with food that compliments it so that you can enjoy the best of both worlds. She picks out ‘lemon sour’ alcohol to drink and to go with it is shigureni, chicken karaage, potato salad, octopus karaage, and pickled cucumber. Seeing such a lineup of food, Hiro predictably asks Nagisa to defrost the rice while trying not to drool over the food.
Seeing Hiro enjoying his experience of drinking, they talk about how different the alcohol tastes with different types of food, its texture, and spices. It’s quite enlightening and educating if you are into Japanese food. But while this whole conversation is ongoing, Nagisa notices that Hiro is redder in the face than she is.
Hiro explains that he cannot stop sipping the alcohol, putting it as similar to eating salted chips and sweet ice cream. She suggests he drink more water so as to not get drunk. *Spoiler, he does*
In Hiro’s bout of drunkenness, he expresses how thankful he is that Nagisa prepares food for him every day. He also gives her a shoulder massage, during which he says in passing that he is grateful to eat with her as it is too lonely to eat alone. And… then he falls asleep right there in the living room.
The following day, both are suffering from a hangover. After sobering up with some good miso soup for their aching hangovers, both laugh about how they are no good adults.
Aikagi-Kun To Shiawase Gohan Chapter 13 Spoilers
As it is a manga focused more on the slice-of-life and growth of two individuals, romance takes a backseat in the plot. But it’s there, like a garnishing. So we can expect another day in the lives of Andou Nagisa and Nishio Hiro. Their time together, with the background of food made with love and care.
Hiro’s vacation will be filled with a great time enjoying homemade food with Nagisa. While every breakfast, lunch, or dinner has the potential to be expensive, the happiness that comes along with good food and good company is like none other.
And we can enjoy this together, for this feel-good manga has a way to make it feel like a shared experience.
