Anyone who thought we would never see a sequel to Happy Gilmore can relax because Happy Gilmore 2 is officially in the works.
The first Happy Gilmore was one of Adam Sandler’s earliest and most successful films, helping to launch his long career after Saturday Night Live. It was so important to Sandler that he even named his production company, Happy Madison, after it and his earlier film, Billy Madison.
The first movie tells the story of Happy, a bad-tempered, hopeful hockey player who can’t make it to the major leagues. Instead, he finds his success as an unexpected golfer.
Although Happy takes some time to adjust his loud personality to the peaceful sport of golf, he ends up proving himself to be one of the best golfers, even if his style is unorthodox.

Where Can You Watch Happy Gilmore 2?
Adam Sandler and Happy Madison have been working closely with Netflix in recent years, making Sandler one of Hollywood’s highest-paid actors by March 2024.
With this success, it’s no surprise that Netflix is producing and developing Happy Gilmore 2. Netflix has also been working on sequels to classic comedies, such as Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.
Does this mean there’s no chance of Happy Gilmore 2 hitting theaters? Not necessarily. Netflix sometimes releases big movies both online and in theaters, so we will have to wait and see if Happy Gilmore 2 will get that kind of release.
Does Happy Gilmore 2 Have a Trailer?
Since production has only just begun, there’s no trailer for Happy Gilmore 2 yet.
Who Stars in Happy Gilmore 2?
It wouldn’t be Happy Gilmore without Adam Sandler, and thankfully, the comedian will be back for Happy Gilmore 2.
Sandler has stuck to his comedic style for decades and continues to do so in collaboration with Netflix. He has also gained attention for his roles in more serious films, like Uncut Gems, Hustle, and Spaceman.
But Sandler won’t be the only returning cast member from the original. Christopher McDonald will be back as Shooter McGavin, Happy’s arrogant golf rival, a role that remains one of McDonald’s most popular.
McDonald has appeared in shows like Secret Invasion and Hacks recently, and he even made a cameo as Shooter McGavin in Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. Julie Bowen will also return as Virginia Venit, Happy’s love interest, after reuniting with Sandler in Hubie Halloween.
There will also be some new faces in the sequel. Musician and Bullet Train star Bad Bunny has joined the cast, as well as Nick Swardson, Benny Safdie, and NFL player Travis Kelce. Sandler has mentioned that he wrote parts of the film when Carl Weathers, Bob Barker, and Joe Flaherty, who were in the first film, were still alive. Sadly, all three have passed away since then.
Fans are also hoping that Ben Stiller will return as Hal L, especially since the character made a small appearance in Hubie Halloween.
What Is the Story of Happy Gilmore So Far?
Happy Gilmore always dreamed of being a hockey player. But after many years of trying, it just wasn’t working out. Things only got worse when his grandmother was evicted from her home and had to move into a nursing home run by the mean-spirited Hal L.
Desperate for money, Happy started making bets at a local golf course, where his talent was noticed by Chubbs Peterson, a former pro golfer.
Chubbs convinced Happy to enter professional golf competitions, and even though Happy didn’t have the typical calm behavior of a golfer, he became a fan favorite. This didn’t sit well with the previous star of the sport, Shooter McGavin, who tried everything to take Happy down. But Shooter’s efforts failed, and Happy found his true place in golf.
Who Is Making Happy Gilmore 2?
Happy Gilmore 2 will be directed by Kyle Newacheck, who has worked with Adam Sandler before on Murder Mystery. Newacheck has also directed shows like Workaholics and What We Do in the Shadows. Sandler is writing the script along with his longtime collaborator, Tim Herlihy.

Filming for Happy Gilmore 2 officially started on September 9, 2024, so it won’t be too long before we see Happy Gilmore on-screen again.
In the meantime, you can stream the original Happy Gilmore on Peacock.
