With the assistance of the Andalucia Film Commission, the Exodus locations team scouted southern Spain for several weeks before Scott made a quick trip there to make the final decisions. Twelve weeks were spent building the sets, which included a sizable facility at the Sierra Alhamilla nature reserve close to Almeria.
