Last Seen Alive is the latest action thriller movie. It features Gerard Butler and Jaime Alexander in lead roles. The ending of Last Seen Alive is quite a rollercoaster ride. The movie starts with a revelation about Lisa’s death. Then it goes back to the past when Lisa and Will had a fight. Amidst the fight, Will stops at a gas station to fuel his car. However, when he looks back, he could not find Lisa there. Despite having fights, Will cares about her wife’s disappearance.
A search for Lisa starts in full force. Although Will is the one making efforts, he is the biggest suspect. Even the viewers are kept in the dark about his motives. And since the very start of the movie declares Lisa’s death. The viewers get a massive surprise with the ending of ‘Last Seen Alive’.
Last Seen Alive Ending Explained
As mentioned before, this movie is a rollercoaster ride. With its constant back & forth and ups & downs ‘Last Seen Alive’ seems like one of the best thriller movies this year. Towards the end, we see a distraught Will on the verge of losing hope. Although he gets few leads, it all ends up being dead ends.
Slowly he learns that this abduction is a larger game plan than he thought it was. The shopkeeper, Oscars, who denies seeing Lisa in the store, was lying. And he himself was involved in the whole scene. When Will beats him up to get the truth out, he demands a ransom in exchange for information. Although he doesn’t believe him at first, seeing Lisa’s phone with him makes Will believe him.
Will finds another lead through CCTV footage. He turns out to be their handyman & Lisa’s old classmate, Knuckles. Although both he & Lisa are friends, Knuckles doesn’t have a career and does menial jobs. And that is why he is always jealous of her. But t is Knuckles who tells Will about Frank.
Frank is apparently a dangerous man and the one to conduct this abduction. Moreover, remember the man who claims that Lisa is dead at the very start of the film? He none other than Knuckles himself. But what we don’t know in the beginning is that it is just his assumption.
When Will finds Frank and kills him, he is sad to have lost his only lead to Lisa. After losing his last hope, Will feels haunted by the memories of Lisa. And in that moment of grief, he doesn’t realize that the place is about to explode. He luckily escapes but now believes that Lisa is dead.
However, to fans’ relief, she is still alive & tied like a hostage in an outhouse. Will heroically recuses her & the two reconcile. The ending is straightforward, and the movie can very well be a romantic one. It is basically a convoluted ploy to make Will & Lisa’s marriage work.
The Themes of the Film
Marriage is definitely a theme in the film. The couple who are on the verge of breaking gets together in the face of adversity. Another important theme is betrayal. Lisa’s old friend as well as the shopkeeper both betray either Will or Lisa at some point.
Why was Lisa kidnapped, to begin with? Knuckles who do menial jobs and spend most of it on drugs needed money. And to him, Lisa’s vulnerability seemed like an opportunity. He got the benefit of the doubt, and Lisa put her trust in him. Which leads to betrayal and realization of true Love.
