Over the decades, fans who have closely followed both the DC Comics and the Marvel Comics have argued about which superhero universe has the strongest heroes. While most people seem to agree that Superman is the strongest character in the DC Universe, the Marvel Universe is considerably more complicated, as their golden boy, Captain America, is not exactly the strongest.
Captain America has been one of the most famous characters in all of Marvel comics since his debut in 1941. Steve Rogers, an out-of-shape Brooklyn youngster who grew up to be a super-soldier, is a symbol of nationalism, honor, and courage who has bravely served the greater good as a sole soldier and leader of the Avengers. Captain America has fought in several famous battles thanks to his boosted powers such as increased speed, strength, and fighting technique.
Despite being one of the most powerful and skillful fighters in the history of comic books, he could still be defeated by a chosen few. Let’s move over to the DC Universe and see which DC Characters can defeat Captain America. Don’t get me wrong, but it’s a fact that almost all the OG Justice League members can defeat Cap.
Here are the Top 10 DC Characters Who Can Defeat Captain America
10. Cyborg
Justice League member who would have little trouble fighting Captain America is Victor Stone, also known as Cyborg. He possesses many powers, including extraordinary strength and durability, which he shares with Rogers. The true kicker in this confrontation, though, is Cyborg’s technological skills and genius-level intellect, which puts Captain America to shame. Captain Rogers would not be able to compete with Stone’s variety of weapons and technology-based skills.
9. Green Lantern
Cap, sadly, has no chance against Green Lantern. With his power ring, he can create force fields, weapons, and other valuable technology, and he’d destroy the star-spangled man. Green Lantern’s power ring grants him the ability to summon practically whatever he wants at any time. It also allows him to fly and has created some extremely strong weapons in the past. The power ring has also developed a completely functional electric chair, a sniper rifle, and even numerous copies of itself with identical abilities.
Green Lantern is stronger than Captain America and can produce a shield ten times the size with such a single thought. Combat with Captain America would be easily handled by Green Lantern in practically any situation. He might take a few blows or strikes from the Shield, but the power ring’s abilities would allow him to easily defeat Cap. Even with all his strength, the guy out of time wouldn’t even be able to stand up to Hal’s 5 power rings.
8. Aquaman
Steve Rogers is unquestionably a great leader and one of the most significant members of the Avengers, both in movies and in comic books. Captain America possesses superhuman abilities such as strength and stamina, as well as an almost unbreakable will. All it would take for Aquaman is to control the water and perhaps drown or possibly kill Steve Rogers in a sphere of water if this battle takes place on a rainy day. Even if Steve could swing his Shield far enough to avoid the sphere of water, Aquaman would almost certainly recover shortly.
Cap’s qualities make him an excellent team leader, and he’s always been ready to fight with his Shield. Captain America’s abilities may put him on a level with Aquaman in terms of strength, but Aquaman also commands the sea. His command of the seas would provide him with the extra power he’d need to defeat Captain America in a fight. Aquaman’s powers also include telepathy, which, though far more effective on sea life than on humans, would still be powerful enough to allow Aquaman to defeat Cap.
7. Batman
Captain America Vs. Batman is a dream match for many comic book fans. But come on, Batman, with a few days of planning, was able to put DC’s most powerful superhero, Superman, to his knees, don’t you think he can do the same to Cap. Captain America comes out on top in terms of pure strength and stamina, but only by a bit. Batman’s strength and stamina are at a peak human level, but Captain America’s are slightly higher. When it comes to speed and agility, though, they are almost identical, with Batman gaining the advantage because he is a superior gymnast and acrobat than Captain America.
In terms of weapons and gadgets, Captain America has his Shield, whereas Batman has a variety of combat weapons. Sure, the Shield is powerful enough to withstand most of the threats the Avengers’ face, but Batman is more creative, and we’re confident he’ll find some way to counter the Shield. The diverse nature of Batman’s gadgets is undoubtedly a positive thing in this case, as his utility belt carries a lot of other stuff.
When it comes to intelligence, Batman comes out on top, with Rogers falling far behind. Overall, we’re supposed to call this a tie – and objectively, it is – but because there is a story in a limited comic series in which Captain America confronts Batman and eventually accepts defeat, we have to highlight that aspect and state that Batman could easily defeat Captain America.

6. The Flash
It’s widely known that Barry Allen’s superpowers make him among the most powerful superheroes in the DC world. His superspeed enables him to travel beside godlike characters such as Superman, and in some versions of the character, he can even create an electrical current. His speed also offers him an advantage in battle, allowing him to confound and outsmart his opponents easily by outrunning them. The Scarlet Speedster can break through any barrier. Even time will not be able to stop him. He has the ability to travel at the speed of light, freeze time, and deliver punches while extending his mass to practically infinite proportions.
So, how do you think he’d perform against Captain America? For starters, he’d be able to outrun him. I’ll admit that I’m cheating a little here because Quicksilver would have made this somewhat a more interesting fight. Flash could prevent all the attacks, start taking out Steve with his normal strikes or lightning, and also save the Eternal Mass Punch if Captain America brings in Thor’s hammer. Even while Captain America has incredible strength and speed, it comes nowhere close to what the Flash can perform. His speed solely makes him among the most dangerous superheroes of all time, and it would be the deciding factor in any combat, even against Captain America.
5. Doctor Fate
Yes, this is another case of cheating, as Doctor Strange would’ve been more than an equal to Doctor Fate. The Lord of Order can easily win a fight against the Earth’s First Avenger, Captain America. Dr. Fate is one of DC’s most powerful characters, with magic by his side, a trick that even Superman can’t match. Scarlet Witch’s magic could affect even the mad titan Thanos, as seen in Avengers: Endgame, so I don’t think Dr. Fate’s magic would lag behind.
Captain America would struggle to get started due to Fate’s strong magic. He has the ability to generate strong illusions, and his reality-shifting abilities can leave Captain America puzzled and unable to locate his target. If Cap calls in Avenger’s help, then Dr. Fate may use his huge arsenal of destructive powers to eliminate them one by one once he has separated and isolated them. Dr. Fate possesses a wide range of abilities, including superhuman powers, illusion creation, telepathy, teleportation, and time travel in some cases. One Peggy Carter illusion would probably be enough to convince Steve to let his defenses down long enough for Dr. Fate to win.
4. Shazam
Billy Batson is like Superman in his most magnificent form. He possesses all of Superman’s abilities, but he needs to summon them. Billy wasn’t blessed with them; he was handpicked as the successor to this power, and it’s easy to see why. He possesses the abilities of several legendary gods, implying that somebody like Captain America, who is only a superhuman, would not be able to defeat him. Even though Shazam is nearly as strong as Superman and has many of the same skills, he would have no difficulty battling Steve Rogers based solely on his natural talents.
Even if Cap managed to get near to Shazam, all Shazam has to do is say “Shazam!” and the lightning bolt would strike Cap, leaving him defeated on the ground. However, Billy Batson is still a kid underneath that superhero form, so would he be able to think of this strategy? Even if Cap was able to wield Mjolnir without the rest of Thor’s almighty capabilities, it could be argued that simply striking Shazam with thunder would have little to no effect. In this instance, Cap’s only option is to confine Shazam beneath Mjolnir long enough for his persistence to wear off, but given Shazam’s superspeed, this is an impossible task in and of itself.
3. Wonder Woman
Whenever it comes to a one-person army, the Princess of Themyscira is one of the first names that comes to mind, regardless of who you’re considering as an opponent. Even when faced with the full Avengers lineup, Diana is more than capable of holding her way. Wonder Woman is not only extremely powerful, but she is also one of the sharpest characters in the DC Universe, if not the smartest. She’d be resistant to Captain America’s attacks, and her power in relation to magic should help her fight off Cap if he brings in Thor’s Hammer, not to forget that she can block any thunder strikes with her bracelets.
Despite the fact that this will be a thrilling and intense fight, the Amazonian Princess will come out on top. Wonder Woman’s superhuman capabilities, along with the fact that she is invulnerable, make her a far greater physical threat than Captain America. She also carries magical weapons, such as her famous lasso. She outperforms Captain America in almost every category. If these two were to go head-to-head, Wonder Woman would easily win. Given Wonder Woman’s enormous raw strength, which she has used to defeat several of DC’s most powerful characters, it’s another reason why Diana would most likely win the round.
2. Superman
There are far too many parallels between Clark Kent and Steve Rogers. Both of them are passionate leaders who care about the cause and are willing to lay down their life for it. The only thing is that Superman is an alien who is far too powerful for Captain America to handle on his own. Given how similar their personalities are, they’d probably never fight, but if they did, it wouldn’t be close. Most Marvel characters would undoubtedly be defeated by Superman, but Captain America would be unable to fight back, aaa what’s the word… Yes, He Would Be Crushed.
Unlike most DC heroes, Superman is one of the few who would give Captain Steve Rogers no chance in a one-on-one fight. From the start, this one is unfair. Is any battle involving Superman, on the other hand, really that fair? Even Captain America’s superhuman talents pay little attention to Superman’s vast array of abilities. Superman’s ability to fly and blast lasers from his eyes simply puts him at a significant disadvantage.
Even though Cap’s Shield absorbs vibrations, if he did manage to lift his Shield in time to prevent one of Superman’s punches, it would only take just a few more superspeed blows combined with his heat vision to press the energy-absorbing atoms past their full capacity, destroying them and the Shield. Moreover, in Avengers: Endgame, Thanos used the force of his blade against his Shield to knock Cap back a long distance; imagine Superman striking Cap’s Shield with full force; this would undoubtedly knock Cap down.
1. Darkseid
Darkseid is among the most legendary DC villains of all time, and he is the reason why Wonder Woman and Superman had to join together since no one, no single superhero, could defeat this Godly beast. Darkseid is a cosmic entity that is not only eternal but also possesses superhuman capabilities and limitless healing abilities. In a one-on-one fight, Captain America would never stand much of a chance against him.
All by himself, DC’s favorite granite-faced, universe-threatening, Anti-Life Equation manipulating bad guy would be a match for the Avengers. All of the Uni Beams, arrows, and those strange sticks Black Widow carries would be no match for his overwhelming power and near invulnerability.
While his Omega Beam would be able to take down the majority of his foes, even Hulk. He may have a more ferocious battle with Thor, both in terms of swinging fists and throwing energy blasts. Even when powered up and carrying Mjolnir and Stormbreaker side by side, it’s a reasonable assumption that the Omega Beam is basically at a higher level.
