After announcing that IZONE will be disbanding, the girls went on their own way. Staring their solo careers to making their debut with other girl groups. While things in careers changed for the girls, the hate remained constant. After parting ways with IZONE, Wonyoung went on to make her second debut with the monster rookie group IVE. With their debut single ‘ELEVEN’, IVE was ranked in the top 3 for a good time. While the girls received love, hate, and criticism like usual. For Wonyoung, the case was a little different, as the teen idol ended up getting a lot of hate as one of the k-pop idols in the industry.
After a clip of Wonyoung rolling her eyes in discomfort went viral back in 2019, the netizens went on to bad mouth the teen idol. Not knowing why she rolled her eyes, the netizens concluded that she was being snarky towards the members. Fans did come to Wonyoung’s rescue. They went on to defend the idol, saying that she has a habit of rolling her eyes from the dry contact lenses. But for the angry netizens, this was not enough to stop the hate on the young girl. But Why Do The Netizens Hate The Idols Much? Where Do They Even Come From?
While Wonyoung has been a recent victim of unnecessary hate, she isn’t the only one. Many idols have been subjected to ruthless behavior by the netizens just for exercising their rights. Recently, a netizen went on to reveal why the idols have been receiving so much hate online. While there exist people who genuinely hate the idols because of jealousy and some unexplainable things. There also exists the concept of the paid haters. And recently, it came to notice that someone had been hiring part-timers to post hate comments against IVE’s Wonyoung.

The expose came after a screenshot of an advertisement was circulated on the internet. The advertisement read that the person was looking for someone who would write comments with them from that day in Jang Wonyoung’s videos on YouTube. They wanted to complain about her expressions in the comments. The person was also ready to pay the fellow commenter about ₩50 KRW (about $0.04 USD) for short comments and ₩100 KRW (about $0.08 USD) for long comments. The person had also given an example of what type of comments they wanted to post on her channels.
One of them included that “she looked like someone that does drugs in a club; why is a young kid like that? Purposefully making sexy expressions sigh… it’s too detrimental to young kids”.
Popular K-pop Idols Who’ve Gotten Unnecessary Hate
Many popular idols have been getting hate and threats for years now. When BTS got famous globally, Jimin and Taehyung used to get death threats. Blackpink’s Jennie and Lisa have gotten a lot of hate for being the popular members of the girl group too. EXO’s Chen was also threatened and was asked to leave the boy group by the netizens when he announced his marriage. Wanna One’s Kang Daniel was also hated for his popularity. The hate only worsened after he went public about his relationship with Twice’s Jihyo.
Red Velvet’s Yeri has been also called an attention seeker for showing her emotions. Many haters have also trolled the idol for her looks. ASTRO’s Eunwoo is often criticized for being the most popular member of Astro due to his good looks and pretty privilege.
With the advertisement going around, many netizens came forward to defend Wonyoung. And went on to condemn the advertiser. Many netizens even expressed their concerns regarding how people were so petty for hiring haters and putting other people down. Many even asked the higher authorities to take action against such people on the internet. Fans hope that the entertainment company would take legal action against the haters who go to such extreme lengths.
