Netflix has decided to cancel the Australian neo-Western series Territory after just one season of six episodes. According to C21 Media, the show was expected to continue, especially since the first season ended on a cliffhanger. The cast and crew were prepared to return for a second season, but they were informed a few weeks ago that it would not happen.
Netflix has not given a clear reason for canceling the show. However, Que Min Luu, the director of content for Australia and New Zealand, shared a short statement about the decision. She said:
“We are incredibly thankful to have had the chance to work with the wonderful cast and production team to bring Territory and the stunning Australian outback into the homes of millions around the world. Although we won’t be continuing with another season, we eagerly anticipate working with all of them again in the future.”
Netflix commissioned Territory in 2023, and it premiered globally on October 24, 2024. The show quickly became successful and reached the second position on the platform’s Global Top 10 English TV shows list within its first week. It gained 6.4 million views in just four days.
The six-episode series also secured a Top 10 position in 74 countries and ranked number one in 11 countries, including Australia and New Zealand.
Despite this success, Territory did not perform as well as other major shows on Netflix. It remained in the Global Top 10 for only three weeks, collecting 87.10 million viewing hours, which equals about 15 million total views. This may have influenced Netflix’s decision to cancel the series.

What Is Territory About?
Ben Davies and Timothy Lee created Territory, which takes place on a cattle farm in the Northern Territory of Australia. The story focuses on different groups fighting for control of the Lawson cattle station after its leader, Colin Lawson, loses his favored son, Daniel. Daniel dies in a suspicious horse-riding accident, leaving the station without an heir.

Anna Torv played the lead role of Emily Lawson. The cast also included Robert Taylor, Michael Dorman, Sam Corlett, and Philippa Northeast. Timothy Lee, Kodie Bedford, Steven McGregor, and Michaeley O’Brien wrote the series, while Easy Tiger Productions and Ronde Media produced it.
Fans who enjoyed the first season are disappointed that they will not see how the story continues. Many hoped for answers to the mysteries introduced in Season 1. However, Netflix has not announced any plans to revive the series in the future.
For those who want to watch the show, Territory is still available for streaming on Netflix.
