Dexter fans are excited again. After more than ten years since the original Michael C. Hall-led crime drama ended, people have been eager for new stories. They hoped to get that through Dexter: New Blood in 2021, but many were disappointed. Showtime decided to cancel the series after just one season.
After some time, the creators introduced a prequel series, Dexter: Original Sin, at the end of last year. Fans have loved it, and the show has received great support. The first season ended on February 14, Valentine’s Day, and the ratings have been counted. The results are impressive.
According to Deadline, the final episode’s viewership increased by 27% compared to the show’s first episode on December 13. This means more people joined the Original Sin journey and are looking forward to a possible second season.
The season finale attracted 2.68 million viewers worldwide. Many people tuned in to Paramount+ with Showtime over the weekend to see how young Dexter Morgan’s (played by Patrick Gibson) story would unfold. The total count includes both streaming and TV audiences from Friday to Sunday.
The final episode also became the most-streamed episode of the season, with a 30% increase from the premiere episode. Fans were eager to see how the first season would end.
Dexter: Original Sin takes viewers back to 1991 in Miami, where a young Dexter Morgan begins his internship at the Miami Metro Police Department. During this time, he starts to feel his desire to kill. His father, Detective Harry Morgan (played by Christian Slater), guides him in creating a code that he will follow for the rest of his life.
The first season also features well-known actors like Sarah Michelle Gellar, Patrick Dempsey, Molly Brown, Christina Milian, James Martinez, Alex Shimizu, and Michael C. Hall, who returns as the voice of Dexter’s inner thoughts.
