Kikuru Madan is a skilled monster hunter who has spent years working in the forest. He is one of the best at what he does, handling dangerous creatures with ease. However, despite his excellent performance, he decides it is time to quit. He doesn’t want to spend his entire youth fighting monsters. Seeing one of his friends get married makes him realize that life is passing him by, and he wants to experience more than just hunting.
Before he can leave his job, the Guild Receptionist, Enome, gives him one last task. A new recruit, Hitamuki Kyan, has joined, and she needs guidance. She is a Lolipai Martial Artist, full of energy and enthusiasm, but completely inexperienced. Enome asks Kikuru to watch over her, protect her, and train her so she can become a proper monster hunter. Kikuru agrees, partly because he worries about her safety and partly because he hopes she can take over his role, allowing him to retire in peace.
However, things do not go as planned. Hitamuki is incredibly bad at her job. No matter how hard she tries, she always ends up attracting monsters instead of defeating them. Instead of being a strong and reliable partner, she becomes more of a burden. Kikuru finds himself constantly saving her, which makes his dream of retirement seem more and more impossible.

Every mission with Hitamuki turns into chaos. Whether they are fighting weak creatures or powerful beasts, she somehow manages to make things worse. Kikuru realizes that instead of training his replacement, he is stuck babysitting someone who might never improve.
Despite his frustration, Kikuru is not the type to abandon someone in need. Even though he wants to leave, he continues to support Hitamuki, hoping that one day she will learn. But with her track record, it seems like his retirement is still far away.
