Anika Dhar, a contestant on Survivor 47, was blindsided and deeply hurt after being unexpectedly voted out by her tribe. During the early days of the competition, Dhar had joined forces with Sierra Wright, Rachel LaMont, and Sam Phalen to form a strategic alliance they called “The Breadwinners.”
They planned to work together to control votes and maintain their power within the tribe. Unfortunately for Dhar, the alliance didn’t last as long as she had hoped. Wright ultimately decided to switch sides and align herself with Phalen and Andy Rueda, which led to Dhar’s surprising elimination in episode 5 of the season.
A Blindside Dhar Didn’t See Coming
Dhar’s elimination was a complete shock to her. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly following her exit, she opened up about how blindsided she felt by her tribe members’ decision to vote her out. She explained how difficult it was to process what had happened in the moment.
“I was processing so much, that’s how much I was shocked. I was flabbergasted at everyone,” Dhar admitted. Her confusion and disbelief were so overwhelming that, for a while, she could barely speak after the vote.
Immediately after her elimination, Dhar sought out fellow alliance member Rachel LaMont to ask whether everyone had been secretly planning her ouster all along. LaMont confirmed her suspicions, leaving Dhar feeling even more betrayed by her former allies.
Betrayal by Someone She Trusted
Dhar’s strongest feelings of betrayal were directed toward Sam Phalen, a fellow member of “The Breadwinners” alliance, who she had grown close to during their time together on the show.
She described their relationship as being like “brother and sister,” which made his betrayal particularly painful for her to accept. She was angry when Phalen tried to take full credit for orchestrating her elimination, though Andy Rueda and Sierra Wright soon stepped in to share the blame.
Despite the hurt she felt from Phalen’s actions, Dhar took some comfort in knowing that he saw her as a serious threat. In her eyes, Phalen must have been worried enough about her game skills to want her out of the competition.
Even though his actions stung, Dhar found some satisfaction in the fact that her presence in the game had made an impact. “It felt good knowing he was threatened enough by me to want me out,” she admitted.
Feeling Betrayed by Sierra Wright
In addition to her disappointment in Phalen, Dhar also expressed how hurt she was by Sierra Wright. She and Wright had developed what Dhar believed to be a strong “girl alliance,” and she was confident that they had each other’s backs.
Realizing that Wright had been working behind her back and had played a key role in her elimination left Dhar feeling betrayed. She had trusted Wright, and that trust was shattered when Wright aligned herself with the tribe’s male players.
This betrayal from both Phalen and Wright cut deep for Dhar, as she had been counting on her alliances to help her progress further in the game. She had entered Survivor to play a strategic, loyal game, and she had believed that her alliances were solid. The reality of the situation, however, turned out to be very different from what she had imagined.
Watching Her Elimination on TV
Dhar’s journey on Survivor didn’t end when she was voted off the island. After leaving the game, she had the experience of watching her elimination play out on television along with the rest of the world.
She confessed that it was a strange and emotional experience to relive that painful moment. Knowing that the episode showing her elimination was approaching had caused her some anxiety, but now that it’s over, she feels a sense of relief.
“It was a very unique experience to watch it back, to see myself be so vulnerable in that moment where I cared so much,” Dhar said. Seeing herself in such an exposed state, where her emotions were raw and her heart was fully invested in the game, was not easy. It reminded her of just how much the game meant to her and how deeply she had wanted to succeed.
Grateful for the Editors’ Fair Portrayal
Despite the pain of reliving her elimination, Dhar was grateful for how the Survivor editors chose to portray her on the show.
She appreciated that they accurately represented her personality and her emotions during her time in the game. For Dhar, it was important that viewers got to see her for who she really was, and she felt the editors did a good job of that.
However, there was one thing she wished the show had done differently. Dhar expressed a desire for the show to have included more of her strategy and the relationships she had formed with other players. While she was satisfied with the full portrayal, she felt that the strategic side of her gameplay could have been highlighted more.
Feeling Her Game Ended Too Soon
In her exit interview, which aired immediately after her elimination, Dhar reflected on how quickly her time in the game came to an end.
She had entered the competition with high hopes and big plans, but unfortunately, she never got the chance to fully execute her strategy. “I got played before I could play them,” she said, acknowledging that her elimination came before she could make the moves she had been preparing for.
Dhar’s frustration with being voted out early was clear. She had put a lot of thought into her game plan, and she was disappointed that her chance to truly showcase her skills had been cut short by the actions of her allies. Still, she left the game with a sense of pride in how she had played up until that point and took solace in the fact that she had made an impression on her fellow players.
Survivor 47 Continues to Bring Twists and Turns
While Dhar’s journey on Survivor 47 has come to an end, the show continues to air every Sunday on CBS, with episodes later available to stream on Paramount Plus.
The current season has already been filled with drama, blindsides, and unexpected twists, and fans can expect plenty more surprises as the remaining contestants fight to outwit, outplay, and outlast one another.
For Dhar, the Survivor experience may not have ended the way she had hoped, but she remains a memorable figure from this season. Her unexpected elimination and the emotional aftermath of her betrayal have been key moments in the season so far, and her time on the show has left a lasting impact on both the players and the viewers.
