In the extended penultimate episode of Expats, our affluent central characters are rather sidelined. Rather, it depicts the way of life in Hong Kong for numerous supporting characters from the current narrative.
Primarily, this implies that we will acquire additional knowledge about Puri (Amelyn Pardenilla) and Essie (Ruby Ruiz), who are referred to throughout the show as Margaret and Hilary’s “helpers”.
In addition to offering historical background for the series, the fifth chapter includes fresh information about our central trio: Margaret and Clarke ultimately decide to leave Hong Kong behind, Mercy gets back in touch with an old friend, and Hilary files for divorce from David.
Recap
Early in the episode, Essie is first heard talking on the phone to her son, who is eager for her to come home because he has established a family of his own. She continues to work with Margaret and is observed assisting with catering for a different group of foreigners.
Afterwards, she runs into Puri while waiting in line at a Western Union counter. As they catch up, the two exchange life stories. When Puri brings up Gus, Essie becomes concerned since she thinks his family is generally a wonderful group of people and she misses the little child. She also feels terrible that his family is going through this difficult time.

Fans probably wait impatiently to see what will happen in Expats Episode 6 on Amazon Prime Video. The narrative, which follows Nicole Kidman’s Margaret Woo as she tries to find her missing kid, has been, to put it mildly, exciting thus far. Things appear dismal before the conclusion.
The three American ex-pats in the centre don’t seem to be getting any closer to finding Margaret’s son Gus, as they keep being twisted around. Readers of the book on which the television series is based are aware that Gus’s situation does not end happily.
Gus never appears on the page; instead, the narrative is about overcoming difficult circumstances and understanding when to let go. With Kidman’s Margaret obtaining the closure she seeks and eventually locating Gus, the streaming series has the potential to alter that.
Gus might not be in the same condition she left him in, though, even if he does show up. Given how frequently the show has strayed from the original story, it wouldn’t be shocking if the anxious mother found her kid and discovered that he had tragically died.
This alteration would emphasize the book’s topic of moving past one’s tragic history while also making a comparable argument.
