Kate Middleton is on the mend after having surgery, according to an announcement from Kensington Palace on Wednesday. The Princess of Wales, who recently celebrated her 42nd birthday, underwent a planned abdominal surgery at The London Clinic the day before.
The statement noted that the surgery was successful, and she is expected to stay in the hospital for 10 to 14 days before heading home to continue her recovery. The current medical advice suggests that she may not resume her public duties until after Easter.
The Princess of Wales values the public’s interest in her health but hopes for understanding regarding her desire to maintain normalcy for her children. She wishes to keep her personal medical information private. Kensington Palace will provide updates on her progress only when there is significant new information to share.
Update on Kate Middleton’s recovery after
“The Princess of Wales wants to say sorry to everyone affected because she has to delay her upcoming plans. She hopes to reschedule as many as she can as soon as possible,” they mentioned. It’s known that the issue she’s dealing with is not cancerous.
After leaving the hospital, Princess Kate is expected to get better at her home in Windsor. The Prince and Princess of Wales moved to Windsor in 2022 from their previous home in London.
During his wife’s recovery and to look after their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, Prince William is also putting off his public duties. He won’t be taking on official responsibilities while Princess Kate is in the hospital or during the early days of her recovery at home.
Princess Kate was last seen in public on Christmas when she walked to church with Prince William and their three children – Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5 – as part of the royal family’s annual tradition at the Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Norfolk.
Prince William postponed his duties to look after Princess Kate
Prince William will stay with his wife, Kate Middleton, as she recovers from abdominal surgery. He’s planning to delay some of his commitments to be there for Kate and their family.
The couple, who are parents to Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5, has decided to postpone two scheduled international trips.
Although the Princess of Wales hasn’t resumed her royal duties in 2024, Prince William attended his first official event of the new year last week.
He joined friends Rob Burrow and Kevin Sinfield at Headlingley Stadium in Leeds. The trio has been raising money for research and efforts against Motor Neurone Disease since Burrow was diagnosed with MND in December 2019.
Kate Middleton felt the support of her closest ones
At her annual Carol concert on December 8, Kate Middleton felt the support of her closest ones, despite being surrounded by controversy. A few days before the event, Omid Scobie’s new book, Endgame, portrayed 41-year-old Kate as “cold” towards Meghan Markle, the new member of the royal family.
In a Dutch translation of the book, Kate was also mentioned, along with King Charles, in discussions about the skin color of Prince Harry and Meghan’s son, Prince Archie, before his birth. (Buckingham Palace is considering legal options due to a publishing error that included their names).
However, during the carol concert and a previous public appearance where they avoided questions about the book, Kate and her husband, Prince William, focused on moving forward. “Many people who have worked with her see her as a valuable asset to the royal family because of her incredible professionalism,” says royal author Valentine Low in this week’s issue of PEOPLE.
Kate Middleton is strong-minded
Similar to other historical royal partners, Kate possesses strength behind the scenes as she supports her husband, William, who is the future king.
While she may have a public image of being nice and smiley, royal author Valentine Low notes that Kate is actually strong-minded, strong-willed, and willing to fight for what she believes is right.
This resilience was evident in the aftermath of Harry and Meghan’s revealing interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021. When the couple claimed there were concerns about their son Archie’s skin color, Buckingham Palace issued a statement on behalf of Queen Elizabeth, emphasizing that “some recollections may vary.” According to Low, Kate played a crucial role in shaping that statement.
“She believed it was crucial not to let this go unchallenged,” says Low. “Kate thinks strategically. As the future queen, she has the long-term interests of the monarchy and the royal family in mind.” Royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith adds that Kate demonstrated real strength and determination to clarify that there might be a different truth.
