The new drama builds on the 2020 limited series, which also featured a new cast of characters and concentrated on the world of Belgravia. While the first series was based on Julian Fellowes’ book of the same name, the sequel continues the story of Clara Dunn and Frederick Trenchard.
When we jump forward to 1871, Frederick has no idea that his birth is the result of a sexual relationship between John Bellasis and Susan. Even though he is the third Lord Trenchard, it caused him to have a difficult childhood, and this will pose some issues for his marriage to Clara, whom he chooses to be with rather than just someone he is forced to be with.
Julian Fellowes, the man behind the wildly successful British series Downton Abbey and the man behind HBO’s The Gilded Age, wrote the script for the original Belgravia show. Fellowes only served as executive producer for Beverly: The Next Chapter; renowned screenwriter Helen Edmundson handled scripting and show running. This new author previously wrote Mary Magdalene.
Plot
Before diving into Belgravia: The Next Chapter Episode 1, let’s quickly talk about the show. Since 2020, a few adjustments have been made to Julian Fellowes’ lavish British historical drama, Belgravia: The Next Chapter.
Though it’s 30 years later, in 1871, most of the characters from Season 1 have passed away, and the place is still a prosperous London neighborhood from the original novel. The focus now shifts to Benjamin Wainwright’s Lord Frederick Trenchard, the grandson of James Trenchard, a wealthy and socially skilled trader who founded Belgravia.
Frederick endured abuse severely by his father, James’ son Oliver (bringing back Richard Goulding, seen in flashbacks alongside another returnee, Alice Eve, playing wife Susan). Adam James, aka John Bellasis, is Frederick’s true father. The insecure and self-loathing young lord, who was never informed of his illegitimate birth, accuses his younger brother James of being the reason behind his lack of love.
Nevertheless, Frederick mistakenly thinks that his vibrant and stunning new wife Clara (Harriet Slater) will be able to help him conquer his problems. However, Neame says, “They’re too strong.” Clara feels stuck in her marriage and oppressed by her partner. Furthermore, Frederick worsens the problem by being fixated on his hazardous railroad investments and his odd partnership with the wealthy and clever French fugitive Marquise D’Étagnac.
Naturally, Lord Trenchard isn’t the only person with a secret. Frederick’s brother James, who is a gentle priest and not the monster he thinks he is, confronts his forbidden sexuality. This chapter, however, contains a truth-teller: a surprise guest with the power to completely change the lives of multiple characters with a few words. Now let’s discuss when Episode 1 of Belgravia: The Next Chapter will be released and what will happen in it.
