Apple TV’s science fiction series called, For All Mankind is a show that follows an intense storyline all drawn up on one single question, what if the Soviet Union had managed to send the first ever crewed mission to the moon, leaving behind the USA, starting a desperate space race?
With the title inspired by the plaque that the crew of Apollo 11 left on the crew that said, “We came in peace for all mankind”, the show follows an alternate version of our actual history.
Summer of this year, the show’s creators Ronald D. Moore, Matt Wolpert, and Ben Nedivi confirmed the release of the fourth season of the show, starting speculations among fans on what the new season could be about.
The first episode of the new season finally aired on November 10th, 2023, putting a stop to fan theories about the show’s plot. This new season has brought back actors Joel Kinnaman, Jodi Balfour, Krys Marshall, Cynthy Wu, Casey W. Johnson, Coral Pena, and Wrenn Schimdt to our screens.
While there are cast members we won’t be seeing again on the show, there are some additions as well, including Toby Kebbell, Daniel Stern, Tyner Rushing, and Svetlana Efremova. Fans know that every season of the show dives into a new period, exploring new eras of space history.
Up until the third season, we saw the 1970s when the USSR managed to beat the USA in the race to the moon. The second season, set during the 1980s, addressed the cold war between the nations and their continued fight for space on the moon.
The third season was set during the 1990s when conquering the moon was just not enough to quench their thirst for victory. The entire season revolved around Mars being the object of their desire and all of us felt the rising tensions through screens.
Recap & Spoilers
Season four of the show is set during the early 2000s, the year 2003 specifically. The race towards Mars had left the characters in the show trapped in conflicts. The premise of season four is set eight years after the space program to Mars.
Earth people seemed to have moved on to digging on Mars and bringing back valuable materials and resources to Earth to make life better here. While the space programs wish to change the future of both planets, there seem some threatening forces looming over trying to sabotage their efforts.
In the last episode, we saw Miles and Dani and the different lives they were living. Turns out that even on Mars, humans managed to create class division. We see Dani trying to fight the gap between the upper and the lower class, while Margo in the USSR struggles with a coup.
The tensions were high throughout the episode and will seep into this new episode as well. The third episode will continue to delve deeper into Miles’ struggles as a grunt while Margo finds herself caught amidst a revolution.
