The British-American filmmaker Nicholas Stoller and the American filmmaker Rob Letterman are back with a supernatural horror television series, Goosebumps. Eight episodes have already been released, and only two are remaining, according to Disney Plus’ order for a ten-part series.
We can expect the original touch because the three production companies, Sony Pictures Television, Original Film, and Scholastic Entertainment, who produced Goosebumps (2023), had previously teamed up for Goosebumps (2015) and Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween (2018).
Every episode lasts from thirty-six to forty-eight minutes, and the main cast consists of Rachael Harris, Miles McKenna, Will Price, Justin Long, Isa Briones, Zack Morris, and Ana Yi Puig. Meanwhile, Paul M. Leonard, Franklin Jin Rho, and Justis Greene are the three producers.
According to various streaming aggregators and tracking apps, Goosebumps is one of the top ten most-watched TV series throughout the US. However, its position in the top ten list changed from 13 October 2023 to 29 October 2023.
Plot
Goosebumps is about supernatural powers and five high schoolers trapped by them. Mr. Nathan Bratt works at the Port Lawrence High School after inheriting Harold Biddle’s property. Harold was a teenager killed in a house fire in 1983. The leading character, Isaiah, is the quarterback of the football team where Nathan teaches.
After acquiring Nathan’s house to celebrate Halloween, Isaiah finds a mysterious camera. After a series of events, he learns that the photos clicked by the camera predict the future of the person. Moreover, it predicts only worse happenings, and they turn true.
Lucas is a teenager and an extreme sports lover. His mother realizes Harold Biddle has returned to punish his enemies after seeing the monsters. Meanwhile, Harold possesses Nathan.
Isabella, the frustrated online troller, finds a mysterious mask in the basement during the Halloween party. However, she throws it after learning that the mask makes her confident and aggressive. Meanwhile, possessed Nathan watches the drama.
Isaiah’s friend, James, is stuck in a time loop, and his duplicates dominate him. Margot (Isaiah’s neighbor), Isaiah, and Isabella realize that the source of the problem is Harold’s house when a Dupe explodes before Isabella. On the other hand, the possessed Nathan hunts for the last Dupe’s mysterious friend.
Lucas brings a tank of worms from Harold’s house during the Halloween party. They enter Lucas’ body and boost his personality. Thus, he is not frightened to perform his late father’s mountain stunt in his tribute the next day. However, Nora and Margot stop him, saying that his father did the stunt to commit suicide and not for adventure.
Thus, Lucas throws the worms that transform into a monster and get killed by him. The ghost takes Margot to the day when Harold got killed by his friends in the house fire when she reads the scrapbook given by the possessed Nathan. The parents of those teenagers, including Margot’s mom, were Harold’s friends.
Harold and his parents inherited his great-grandfather’s house. Harold finds the puppet, Slappy, in the basement hidden by his great-grandfather after realizing how evil Slappy is. Harold’s downfall starts after that, and his friends guess the reason.
Harold’s friends try to help him by taking Slappy away, but he does not believe in them. He locks himself in the basement and takes his last breath in an accidental house fire. One of the friends tears Slappy. Meanwhile, Nathan comes out as Harold before today’s teenagers.
Harold takes Nathan and the teenagers to the world of the scrapbook, where they hunt Slappy’s remains. On the other hand, Nathan struggles to save his body from getting possessed. All characters come out of the book when Harold throws it in water.
After a confusing chase, the teenagers and the parents get together. They stop Harold, who is about to kill Isaiah, by telling him the truth. Thus, he leaves Nathan’s body and Isaiah and throws evil Slappy down the cliff. However, Slappy might emerge in the upcoming episodes.
