What will you do if your entire identity is about being the wild child writing stories about feminism, but things change after you get caught having an affair? What will you do if you have to uproot your life and settle someplace else to avoid being in the public’s eyes due to the scandal you caused?
Directed by Liz Friedlander and Altethe Jones, the series titled “Shinning Vale” focuses on a dysfunctional family having to uproot their lives and move to a small town and reside in a house where several terrible atrocities have taken place after Patricia, a former wild child known for her raunchy novel is found guilty of cheating on her husband and her reputation of a faithful, loving wife is in shambles.
This leads to the chaos that ensues after the family moves into the house with terrible atrocities having taken place, but no one except Patricia notices the things that are wrong with the house, thus leading her to believe that she is hallucinating.
Released on March 6, 2022, by Starz, the series got renewed for a second season after the success it received with its first season. The series has eight episodes to date, with a run time of 29 minutes for viewers to enjoy.
Even though Patricia has been sober for 17 years, there is loneliness in her life as she hasn’t had sex with her husband for a long time, leading her to cheat on him.
Patricia and her husband, in a last attempt to save their relationship as her affair was Patricia’s one-time slip-up, decide to move to the small town after cashing in all their savings.

The season starts with seventeen years being passed since Patricia’s only novel released, and now she lives a lonely life with her husband and two children.
Patricia’s feeling of loneliness leads her to have an affair with her husband, but her husband wants to live and make it work with Patricia. After Terry discovers about his wife’s affair with the handyman, he decides to move his family to Shining Vale from Brooklyn.
Meanwhile, Patricia suffers from a mid-life crisis after spending three months with therapists to deal with Patricia’s mental health.
Once the family moves into the new house, Patricia takes up the attic to finish her novel but fails to write even a page of it so the tension starts to build, and Pat starts to feel an ominous presence around her and starts to hallucinate about Rosemary Wellingham, a woman who was the previous owner of the mansion and supposedly killed herself in the house.

Patricia starts to talk about her hallucinations to her therapists, but instead of supporting her, the therapist convinces Patricia that Rosemary is her alter ego that she created to work on her novels, so he prescribes her some drugs to deal with it.
Patricia loses control of her pills and starts to hog them, thus losing control of her mind, and her hallucinations of Rosemary increase, leading her to make a pact with Rosemary, stating that she will let her possess her body, but soon the demon takes over Patricia. Rosemary kept her identity a secret till the end, but she did help Patricia to write her novel.
Rosemary possessed Patricia’s body due to the similarities the two had in their lives, as Rosemary also had an affair, but unlike Patricia’s husband, Rosemary was a dominant person. The series’ first season ends with Patricia being admitted to a psychiatric hospital.

Shinning Vale will become available for viewers on Starz on 13 October 2023, at 12:00 PM [E.T.], and will focus on Patricia returning home and making attempts to put her broken family back together.
Meanwhile, Terry will meet his family for the first time after suffering from a traumatic brain injury while Gaynor battles with Patricia over the role of the household’s head. During the time the family struggles to reconnect with each other, Patricia’s peculiar neighbors reveal the reason behind her mental breakdown.
