In October 2022, it was announced on the official Twitter page of Hiromu Arakawa’s “Hyakushō Kizoku (The Peasant Noble/ Peasant Aristocrat)” that it would receive an anime adaptation. Arakawa is best known locally and internationally for “The Fullmetal Alchemist” (2001-2010), “Silver Spoon” (2011–2019), and the manga adaptation of “The Heroic Legend of Arslan“ novels.
Before entering the world of manga, Hiromu Arakawa worked as a farmer for seven years on her family’s farm in Hokkaido. The irregularly serialized essay manga “Hyakushō Kizoku (The Peasant Noble/ Peasant Aristocrat)” details the typical routine of a farmer working on a dairy farm.
From raising cows to growing vegetables to working during harvesting, Arakawa has experienced it all and portrays the realistic picture of the day-to-day scene in “Hyakushō Kizoku.” It was first published in ‘Un Poco manga magazine in 2006. When ‘Un Poco’ ceased its publication in 2009, the series was transferred to ‘Wings magazine in June of the same year. As of 2021, the chapters have been collected in seven wideband volumes.
The manga details not only the physical labor of a dairy farmer but also the emotional ride that comes with the job. Arakawa beautifully captures the harsh realities of Japanese dairy farming while also enlightening her reader on this hard but powerful way of life. The series gives fans a great insight into the life of Himuro Arakawa and the lives of her fellow farmers.
Hyakusho Kizoku – Release Date, Cast, Staff, Music Artists, and More
On Thursday, Hyakushō Kizoku’s official anime website revealed the cast, staff, ending theme artist, and key visuals that will be featured in the upcoming anime adaptation. The premiere date was also announced at the same time, which is set to be on July 7 on Tokyo MX at 9:54 PM.
The series is the “Pie in the Sky” studio. “Yuutarou Sawada” is acting as the director, scriptwriter, and line director of the anime. Sawada is best known for directing “Tokyo Onlypic Pictures” (2008), “B Rappers Street,” and “Inui-san!”. “Ayane Matsumoto,” popular for the “Gunma-chan” (storyboard, animation, and episode direction) as well as “Bocchi the Rock!” (Ending three animation), is the drawing director and character designer.
The background drawings are being done by “Ari.” “Precious Tone,” a music production team famous for their work on “Hyakushō Kizoku,” “My Life as Inukai-san’s Dog,” and “VazzRock the Animation” is responsible for the music, while “FRAM” who has worked on the theme song for “Itai no wa Iya nano de Bougyoryoku ni Kyokufuri Shitai to Omoimasu. 2” will perform the ending theme song for the anime.
The cast includes “Mutsumi Tamura” as Hirumo Arakawa. She is best known for the role of ‘Kobayashi’ in ‘Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid,’ ‘Hermes Costello’ in ‘JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Stone Ocean’ and ‘Alice’ in ‘The Ancient Magus Bride season 2. Ishii-san’s character is being played by “Mariko Honda” who portrayed the role of ‘Sandrone’ in ‘Genshin Impact,’ ‘Inu-tan’ in ‘Etotama ~Cat Visitors Come~,’ and ‘Midori Watanabe’ in ‘Serious Passion from your fingertips 2 – My Lover is a Firefighter’.
“Shigeru Chiba,” who played ‘Buggy the Clown’ in ‘One Piece,’ and ‘Master of Goodness in ‘Demon Slayer’ plays the character of Oyaji-Dono (Father). The role of Okan (Mother) is being filled by “Kujira,” who was seen as ‘Otose’ in ‘Gintama’ as well as ‘Orochimaru’ in ‘Naruto.’

The announcement also included the key visual reveal. The image shows Arakawa, Ishii-san, Oyaji-Dono, and Okan with farming tools surrounded by farm animals and vegetables. It perfectly captures all that is essentially a part of a farmer’s life.
The Hyakushou Kizoku manga is currently serialized in “Shinshokan’s Wings” and published under the Wings Comics label. Although there is no set schedule for the chapter release, the manga has amassed a huge fan following.
With such a talented cast and crew, the fans are eagerly awaiting the premiere in the hopes of understanding key aspects of Arakawa’s early life through the anime. Great expectations are in sight for the series as loyal fans of Arakawa’s works (The Fullmetal Alchemist and Silver Spoon) expect to be wowed by the animated portrayal of their favorite manga.
