With great cinematics and impactful storylines, it’s no surprise that every Marvel movie becomes a blockbuster hit as soon as it releases. What makes these movies complete is their perfectly chosen filming locations, which seem to weave into the film’s story seamlessly.
Wakanda Forever, also known as Black Panther 2, was released in the year 2022 and ended up collecting almost 860 million dollars through the Box office. With the unfortunate demise of Chadwick Boseman, the future of the Black Panther series seemed uncertain, but what directors like Ryan Coogler managed to produce was beyond anyone’s expectations.
Starring Letitia Wright as the main character this time, the plot of Wakanda Forever revolved around her role as Shuri, who was now going to be the next torch bearer for Wakanda. The movie also has other award-winning actors like Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Angela Bassett, and Dominique Thorne in the leading roles. The antagonist of Wakanda Forever was played by Tenoch Huerta Mejia.
After the initial release of the first part in 2018, the producer of Black Panther, Kevin Feige, announced that there is room for future movies and would love to include Ryan Coogler in it. Since Black Panther‘s rule was relatively new in the movies, there was hope that his kingdom could grow in future films, but with the sudden passing of Chadwick Boseman, the plot had to follow a different direction.
Compared to the previous film, the second part of the Black Panther series did not have as many filming locations, such as Korea or Argentina. Wakanda Forever was mostly shot in specific locations in and around Massachusetts, Georgia, and Atlanta.
A Breakdown of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’s Filming Locations
Filming for this Marvel movie was going to be started in March of 2021 but was delayed to June 29th, 2021. The mastermind behind the cinematography of the movie is Autumn Durald Arkapaw, as opposed to Rachel Morrison, who worked on the first movie. The first location that the cast of Wakanda Forever had to shoot in was Atlanta.
Atlanta, Georgia:
With most of the cast returning for the second movie, the shooting of a few scenes commenced in Georgia, the home to many great names, such as Martin Luther King. As certain parts of the movie took place underwater, the crew arrived at the Mary Ross Waterfront Park in Brunswick, Georgia, to film all the scenes involving Talokan.
The filming at this park took place from October 28th, 2022, up until November 2nd, 2022. The person who was responsible for the management of the Marina reported that a giant cruise had to be called in to help with the tediously long hours of shooting above the water, which mostly took place at night to avoid any disturbances.
After Letitia Wright had been injured while filming previous scenes, the shots that didn’t require her continued to be filmed in Atlanta. What made matters worse was the implementation of new rules by the CDC, which made it harder for her to travel. Things resumed after Letitia’s injuries were healed completely. Tyler Perry also claimed that some of the movie scenes were shot in his studios that were located in Atlanta, Georgia.
Massachusetts:
At a certain point in the movie, the main protagonists head over to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to get in contact with Riri Williams, a student at the university. Most of the filming at this location took place in August, with a thrilling car chase scene being filmed in Massachusetts later in the month. This is the time when Letitia got injured after shooting these scenes, as well as a few other scenes in the City of Worcester.

Puerto Rico:
Serving as one of the main filming locations, the beautiful Puerto Rican lands were able to provide most of the scenic locations that were seen in the movie. One of these locations was the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Carolina. Although it lies as a desolate building after the hurricanes, the place was perfect for flashback scenes that Wakanda Forever needed to have.
Being the most populous place of the territories, San Juan was where most of the “Haiti” scenes from Wakanda Forever were filmed. As the capital of Puerto Rico, San Juan is also a popular tourist destination and is the best place to find out more about Puerto Rican Culture. Filming for the movie here began mid-March and was completed by March 24th.
This wraps up all known locations of Wakanda Forever. As with almost all Marvel movies, Black Panther’s first part and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will be available to stream at Disney Plus all over the world.
