Average Joe is BET+’s latest dark humor comedy coming next week to the small screens. It mixes humor, thrills, and crime to deliver a show about a man whose life as a plumber goes upside down the moment he has to take care of his dad’s estate after his passing, discovering that his dad was in cahoots with some bad people.
When the opportunity pops up, Deon Cole’s character Joe Washington, friends, and family move as a close-knit group to protect their lives and enjoy the vast wealth that his late father managed to accrue on some dark, illegal means from a group that’s more corrupt that he was, and in the process, there’ll be laughs, scares, and a few dead bodies.
Average Joe Preview
Joe Washington is a plumber in a city. He lives a normal life with his wife and kids. The moment his father dies, he must deal with the succession and inheritance; on the surface, his dad was a tow truck company driver, but underneath that, he was laundering money for the Russian mafia.
As it turns out, Joe discovers that his dad stole ten million dollars from the Russian mafia and a luxury car, and the Russians want the car and money back. But when Joe comments on this to his family and a close friend, they come up with the idea to keep it. With the help of a local cop, Joe moves the money, but what he doesn’t know is that the Russian mafia is closing in on him.
And that’s the scenario where this dark humor comedy on BET+ begins. It will be a cat-and-mouse tale where on one side, there’s a family trying to use a huge wad of cash, and on the other, an international crime ring looking to recover their money. Who will win?
