Unidentified Mysterious Girlfriend UMG, in short, is a new and upcoming series from Thailand that premiered its first episode on 12 March 2023 and is set to release 10 episodes, with each episode airing every Sunday.
This Thai drama that uses sci-fi and romance tropes to build anticipation is sure to keep you hooked with its otherwordly experiences that seem right out of a fever dream. In this show, GMM pairs Namtan Tipnaree Weerawatnodom and Nanon Korapat Kirdpan to play our main lead in Unidentified Mysterious Girlfriend.
Mew, our male lead’s first love was Erng. A girl he met when he was still a child, with who he could share all his innocent thoughts and dreams. He struggled to move on after she mysteriously vanished one day.
Just as he was prepared to consider moving on ten years later, his first love reappears. She did not, however, seem to be the same Erng he used to know and hang out with. She now has a unique quality to her—something otherworldly.
In this drama, there will be intense chemistry, mysterious thrills, and lots of comedic slapstick. An all-in-one that will keep you entertained and wanting more! UMG Episode 1 Recap (Spoilers!)
Episode 1 of UMG begins with Mew getting into a fight at the arcade. A guy named Boss seemed to be harassing a girl he was with. When Boss spots Mew working in the arcade, he tries to bully him and put him down. This quickly escalates from petty exchanges to a fistfight between the two.
Meanwhile, Jack, Mew’s friend, was recording the whole incident to upload it on his YouTube channel. When things got serious, Mr. Kit, their college teacher, got a call and was asked to handle the situation. Mr. Kit takes Mew and Jack to join his Mystery Exploration Club.
He introduces the only two members of the club, O, the monster hunter, and Fahsai, the alien hunter. The club required four members to actually function. Hence Mr. Kit brought them there to join them. While it all seemed absurd to Mew, the club was on a mission to explore the mysterious meteor shower case where a girl disappeared 8 years ago.
This girl turns out to be Mew’s first love, Erng. When he realizes the case the Mystery Exploration Club is trying to take on, he storms off, claiming how absurd it all is. Fahsai follows him and tells him that even though they may seem a bit strange, he, too, is a bit strange in her eyes.
The next day, Mew, after thinking about what Fahsai had said, remembers Erng and eventually joins the club on their voyage to the hills. They camp out in the place while Mr. Kit leaves due to some emergency. Fahsai goes into the woods to explore what alien/monster could possibly be hiding there.
She ends up reaching an abandoned building, where Mew finds her. It turns out that the stories of a monster residing in the woods were all made up by Mew. He wanted to protect the forest and keep it away from people. He wanted to treasure his memory of Erng from the world and keep their special place hidden.
Later, Mew and Fahsai witness the meteor showers, praying for Erng to somehow come back and hoping Mew’s wishful thinking would come true. The episode ends with the two of them stuck in the woods after a sudden earthquake. What will happen from here?
