Talking about Littimer, in David Copperfield, he was the discreet servant of James Steerforth. His presence was very prominent as he was always very much particular about his words and doings. Because of that, David used to feel very young in front of Littimer. Once, Steerforth slept with Emily and left her when he was bored. After that, he asked his servant, Littimer, to marry her and give her respect. But Emily refused the proposal and decided to run away from the house.
So, even if you thought Littimer to be quiet, he was an accomplished criminal and was clever too. Well, he told everything to Steerforth. There was a rift between the two. So, that was when Littimer left his employment. Littimer returned to England and told everything about what happened to Miss Dartle. In exchange, he earned a handsome amount.
In the later days, we saw Littimer imprisoned. Why? After leaving the job of his servants at Steerforth, he got hired by a young man whom he robbed. Being guilty of it, he was arrested. David encountered him in jail. But, Littimer tried to escape in disguise. Nobody would want to get caught after robbing. However, it was Miss Mowcher who found him trying to leave the place.
Not to forget to mention James Steerforth being classy enough to have his personal servant. People took him and Littimer as the perfect match. The end of Littimer’s character in the novel, David Copperfield, for his imprisonment in Creakle’s jail, was not liked by many. People expected more from his part.
