Asvins is a recent Indian Tamil-language psycho-horror thriller film directed and written Tarun Teja. It’s his first movie, and it features Vimaia Raman as Aarthy Rajagopal and Vasanth Ravi as Arjun.
The movie itself is an adaptation of Teja’s previous cinematographic work in the short form, only that it took the same name for its feature film release. The movie is tense, it has flashbacks and narrates a folk tale about a boy that is saved, but then things take a turn when paranormal events start happening.
With stunning cinematics, the soundtrack under the direction of Vijay Siddharth, and produced by B. V. S. N. Prasad and Sri Venkateswara Cine Chitra, the movie poses a complex plot that some might find in need of clarification.
Asvins Plot
When a group of YouTubers gets contacted by a company in the business of doing adventure tourism in the UK, things start to change for them because the YouTubers have a knack for exploring paranormal events. So, they lure them to a mansion with some dark spirits haunting the place.
The YouTubers go to the place and plan to spend the night at a haunted mansion, one that belonged to a certain Aarthi Rajagopal. Rajagopal was an archaeologist who killed her staff and then died a tragic death. The film tells that those deaths were gory and nasty, but what stood out and what was different was that Aarthi’s body was not found in the mansion. Apparently, Rajagopal did some witchcraft before murdering those people.
Among the victims were Arjun and Ritu, a married couple who were excited to start a new life in London and were on the team that went to look at the mansion. Rahul was in charge of the team, and his younger brother Varun was in charge of sound. Varun had just been accepted to a foreign university to study what he was interested in.
Grace was chosen to take pictures. Arjun couldn’t ignore the strange feeling he had when he got to his destination. He thought that every person has two minds and that one can think of good things while the other can think of bad things.
As he walked toward the mansion, he could feel his dark side coming out. On that night, there was no way out of the mansion because the only way to get to the mainland was underwater because of high tide. They were pretty much stuck in the mansion, and their only goal was to stay alive.
Rahul gave each team member a different room. Grace was captivated by a mirror she found, so she tried to take a picture of it. Soon, she could hear voices muttering, and the mirror kept moving toward her.
Rahul and Varun had the same strange things happen to them as the rest of the team, and their ghosts didn’t spare their lives either. The rest of the group had already died by the time Arjun came to his senses. He found their dead bodies when he went into the garden. Grace was taken over by the scary thing, and then it moved on to Ritu. Ritu tried hard to stay calm as she hid from the scary presence, but Arjun passed out on the stairs.
Still, it was strange that he could see Rahul talking to him. Arjun thought of Aarthi’s book, in which she talked about the realm of reincarnation and the possibility of living after death in a state between life and death.
Arjun found out that while he was sleeping, his dark side was active and that he was the one who killed his friends. Arjun didn’t know if he was dead or alive, so he decided to watch the videos that Aarthi had made in the past to find out more about the strange place he was in.

What Is The Problem With Asvins?
Asvins mixes myth fables with some aspects of the Western psychological thriller horror films we’re all used to. Tarun Teja adapted his initial short into a full-fledged feature film of chilling and scare tactics. But he goes too far into the original material, and sometimes the story needs clarification.
Asvins scares you, perhaps too much, perhaps up to the point where you find it tedious and predictable, and that’s one of its weak points. However, Tarun Teja’s Asvins takes time to tell you the story, which in the end is quite short, and stemming from that, it jumps to a conclusion that leaves many viewers baffled.
Asvins Ending Explained
Arjun watched ghostly videos of his deceased friends. In order to save them, he deciphered a cryptic script that suggested his resurrection would break the curse. He entered the cursed world to face the demon.
Arjun discovered his connection to the demon and idol as the demon tried to possess him. He defeated the demon and united the two idols with a holy thread with unwavering determination. The demon was defeated in a climactic battle, and Arjun’s friends returned to life.
His victory was costly. Eliminating the curse required his death. However, Arjun’s life-or-death choice was unexpected. He loved being a husband and father. The ending suggests a threat and a mysterious woman. Asvins’ logic-defying twists keep the audience on edge.
