Infinity Pool, released in January 2023, is a horror movie that follows the story of a couple on vacation. They had planned to enjoy the holidays and have fun. But it all goes haywire when an accident throws everything upside down.
They visit La Tolqa, a stunning island across the coast. But soon, an accident reveals the truth behind the pristine beauty of the island. James and Em Foster must strive through obstacles to ensure their survival. Boasting an impressive cast like Alexander Skarsgard, Amanda Brugel, and many more, the movie fared well at the box office.
The movie’s filming locations garnered attention due to their beauty of the locations. The couple spends their holidays on an isolated island which appears stunning. So where was this movie filmed? Does La Tolqa exist in real life?
Infinity Pool Filming Locations
The movie was shot in two main locations- Budapest and Sibenik. Both these places are located in Europe and are well known for their stunning locations.
The crew had to spend a good amount of time browsing through places to select Budapest and Sibenik. The shooting commenced in September 2021 and wrapped up within 2 months.
Budapest Hungary
Budapest has become quite popular with filmmakers. The capital city of Hungary is well known for its stunning locations that provide an excellent backdrop for several scenes. Infinity Pool was filmed in several locations in Budapest.
Budapest is home to several diverse buildings that have striking architecture. These locations can be used to portray any typical European city. Amanda Brugel, the lead actress of Infinity Pool, posted many pictures of the stunning locations of Budapest. Budapest has earlier been used in filming Mrs. Harris Goes To Paris, Moon Knight, etc.
The building you see in the movie when James and Em rush out from the resort is part of Hungary’s landscape. The crew did most of the filming in Hungary and Sibenik. Then the editing work was all done in Canada.
Sibenik, Croatia
This place in Croatia was also used for the filming of Infinity Pool. Sibenik is a popular tourist destination. It lies across the Adriatic Coast. The place is close to the Kornati Islands and houses many resorts and beach homes.
Karen Ella, Infinity Pool’s producer, mentioned that it was a daunting task to locate this place. They also found another tempting location, The Adriatic Coast, here. The crew comprised local Croatian talent, so it was easy to blend the scenes according to the Croatian culture.
The Amadria Park Resort Sibenik
The Amadria Park Resort was used to film a few scenes of the movie. This famous resort is located at Hoteli Solaris 86. It was at this stunning resort James and Em spent their time. Also, this resort was used to show the island of La Tolqa. This island doesn’t exist in reality.
The resort and its nearby areas were used to show the island. Planning a visit to this place after watching the movie. Well, you would be delighted to find many touristy spots in Sibenik. There are many old cathedrals that are known for their architecture and history. You can visit the Cathedral of St. James, St. John Fortress, etc.
The Island of La Tolqa
Well, La Tolqa is a fictional place. So you won’t be able to travel to this dread place, create your own clones and soak yourself in barberry and violence. In reality, the island is part of the Adriatic Coast of Croatia. So you can plan a trip to this place and enjoy the stunning landscapes.
Though the place doesn’t exist, the punishments were inspired by real counties like Malaysia and the Middle East that provides strict punishment to criminals. The culture, traditions, and customs shown in the movie seemed to resemble a bit the ones you find in South Asian countries.
The producer thanked his crew of 75 people and several extras for putting in all their efforts to accomplish the shooting of Infinity Pool. By employing local talent from Croatia and Hungary, the producers managed to retain the original flavor easily.
