Translating to “Captivity” in English, Esaret is a show that portrays the blossoming of love between Orhun and Hira, our two main characters who are cursed with ill-fate, and must overcome all the challenges and hauntings of their past in order to live a life of happiness. Their love can only grow if they themselves move on and strive for a better future.
Orhun, is a successful businessman who lives with his twin sister Nihan, his younger sister Nurşah, and their cold mother Afife, who acts rather distant and cold towards them despite them being her children. Orhun, nonetheless, is a highly devoted family man and cherishes and cares for all of the women who are a part of his life.
However, over the past few days, contacting the twin sister Nihan has become increasingly difficult after she left their family to work as a volunteer doctor in Eritrea, Africa. This more than anything else concerned her family, particularly Orhan, as she was not the type of person who withheld information or updates from them.
Orhun makes the decision to track down his sister and bring her back home since he is worried about both her sudden leaving and general well-being. On his search for Nihan, Orhun encounters Hira, a defenseless young woman who has spent her entire life in the hands of human traffickers.
When he questioned Hira if she knew anything about the whereabouts of his sister, she told him what she knew, while Orhun is horrified to learn that Nihan had been poisoned and murdered by the gang that had kidnapped Hira. Hira had been forced into her actions, but Orhun could not forgive her when it was revealed that she was guilty of poisoning his sister despite being forced to do the job.
He could not take the abrupt knowledge of losing his beloved sibling, making him come up with a plan to seek vengeance for Nihan’s death. Instead of saving Hira from having to endure life as a prisoner, he will take her home with him and make things worse for her.
The issue gets even worse when Orhun’s mother, Afife, admits to her son she had been deceiving her children about the passing of their father and he was in fact, alive. Both the revelation of brand-new secrets and the death of his sister led to Orhun’s mental health getting worse, turning him into an evil person.
In an effort to drive his mother crazy, Orhun plans on marrying Hira as he was well aware of Afife’s hate towards the poor and “lower class”. Will Hira be able to overcome her state of captivity or will her alliance with Orhun turn out to be more difficult than her earlier life?
