Format Of The Show
On each episode, Brand and three alternate panelists are featured. A chef or cooking specialist, like Michel Roux Jr. or Rosemary Shrager, a comedian, like Hal Cruttenden, and a well-known person who watches the show regularly make up the panelists. Past bakers who have won, such as Nancy Birtwhistle and Nadiya Hussain, have also been on the panel.
A typical episode starts with Brand recapping the previous episode’s events while playing clips, including previously unreleased, typically amusing outtakes from the tent. The panelists are then questioned about the episode and what transpired in the tent that week.
She shows pictures of the baked goods that fans have sent in before discussing the baked goods that viewers have brought to the studio, at least one of which the panelists try. The most recent baker to be eliminated rejoin the panel in the final segment, where Brand conducts another interview with them.
One of the baker’s “less successful bakes” is requested, and Brand and the panel sample it. The episode comes to a close with the baker receiving a cake that commemorates their time spent in the tent. A sneak peek of what will happen in the upcoming episode of the main show is shown by Brand as he wraps up the show.
Season 9 Cast of The Great British Bake Off – An Extra Slice
A professional baker or chef, a famous person who is a fan of the show, and a comedian would normally make up the celebrity panel when on the BBC, though this was not always the case. Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry, the judges for each series, typically joined a comedian on the panel for the last episode of each season. However, Prue Leith and Hollywood have made appearances on every episode of the series since the fourth series.
Two comedians and an actor or other fan make up the panel in the Channel 4 version of the show. Tom Allen started regularly contributing to the series in 2018 and reviews baked goods made by viewers. In 2015, Sarah Millican presided over one episode of the second series since Jo Brand, the usual host, was unable to do so.
