The most nostalgic fantasy series yet, Harry Potter, by J.K Rowling, will be regarded as a classic for years to come. The books and the movies by the author never fail to take their audiences from a bleak world into the fascinating world of magic. Although the whole series is intriguing, the fact that J.K Rowling chose to pair Harry with Ginny instead of Hermione never sat right with few fans. Whether it was their chemistry or the way we’re conditioned to believe that the male lead should end up with the female lead, the pairing’s still confusing and disappointing for many.
The Harry Potter movies premiered from 2001 up until 2011, covering J.K Rowling’s novels completely. The plot revolves around “the boy who lived,” Harry Potter, who suddenly ends up at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and finds out that he’s the chosen one who’ll be fighting against the wretched Lord Voldemort, the same evil Dark Arts user that made him an orphan.
Potter is just in his early teens when he’s recruited by Hogwarts. This finally gives a lonely Harry a chance to make some real friends. Despite being treated as an outcast all the time, Harry manages to find two loyal friends, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger. Throughout the movies, Ron and Hermione help and guide Harry and even end up saving his life a handful of times. With the threat of death looming around him, Potter seldom had time to take care of his love life, but he does develop strong relationships by the end.
Who Does Harry Potter End Up With?
The first time Harry ever shows that he could have feelings for a girl is when he develops a crush on Cho Chang and tries to impress her by participating in the Triwizard Tournament. Unfortunately for him, Cho already had someone else in mind. She eventually does return Harry’s feelings, but the relationship doesn’t last long, and the pair drifts apart. He doesn’t have another crush for a long time, but we do see him falling for Ginny eventually, especially when we reach Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince.
Ginny was introduced in the series early on as the smart, powerful, and skilled pureblood who is unexpectedly good at Quidditch. She develops a crush on Potter in Prisoner of Azkaban but ends up dating Dean Thomas in Half-Blood Prince. She had actively been helping Harry in the previous films, but in Half-Blood Prince, Harry finds her and Dean kissing in the corridor, and he ends up frustrated with the relationship. This makes him realize that he has real feelings for Ginny, and when she breaks up with Dean, Harry and her start dating after winning the Quidditch Cup.
Things go well for a while, but Harry has to start looking for Horcruxes and sadly decides to break up with Ginny to protect her from Voldemort. If he knew Harry and her were a thing, Voldemort would’ve certainly tried to harm Ginny. The pair don’t meet for a long time until Harry returns to Hogwarts in Deathly Hallows Part 2. Ginny and her mom fight against Bellatrix, and Molly eventually kills her successfully.
After a time skip of 19 years, we see a grown-up Harry taking his kids to Hogwarts. He is accompanied by his wife, Ginny, who hugs the kids as they start a significant part of their lives. The couple meets Hermione and Ron as they also send their kids off to Hogwarts at the same time. We see that Harry and Ginny have a total of 3 kids, James Sirius, Lily Luna, and Albus Severus.
Why Was It Harry & Ginny and Hermione & Ron?
It’s shown early on in the films and books that Hermione and Harry were involved platonically, where Harry would go off on his own, and Hermione would have to step in and make him see things logically. Though Ron doesn’t come off as someone reliable at first, he manages to save people at times with whatever skills he possesses. The trio gets along well together, but Hermione and Ron are the ones to develop feelings for each other. From the beginning, we see Ron taking a stand against those who bullied Hermione or spoke ill of her.
In the book, Harry recalls his relationship with Hermione as like that of his sister (& not a lover). Though this stays the same for most of the part, there comes a time when Harry and Hermione become closer while searching for Horcruxes. This makes Ron jealous, but he realizes that he was wrong and Hermione still loves him. Harry and Hermione were both intelligent, skilled, and righteous, but it’s hard to say if their relationship would have lasted for a long time.
Hermione and Ron, on the other hand, complement each other very well. Ron is carefree, while Hermione is more serious than needed. Weasley was the exact kind of person Hermione needed to exist in a world where too much logic could become fatal. Also, After marrying Ron and having two kids, she does become Harry’s sister (in-law). J.K Rowling did reveal in an interview that she wasn’t sure if she made the right decision, but somehow, the way Harry Potter’s story ends makes the storyline feel fulfilling.
