What Has Happened on Top Chef Canada Season 10 So Far?
Eden informs the chefs that they must create meals incorporating the company’s color options. They pull knives one at a time to determine which two colors are allotted. Dez chooses a straightforward dish of deep-fried cheddar sticks and marinara sauce reminiscent of a bar snack. Tawnya serves Greek yogurt with apricots and blue corn.
It seems to be a nice dish that Tawnya serves, but it may not be quite blue enough. Monika’s deep-fried eggplant meal is the furthest from her allotted colors, notably the “ink blue,” whereas Camilo’s dish does contain some black garlic but lacks the “onyx black.” Both cooks obtain an “x.”
Despite being given one of the most difficult colors to work with—”violet-blue”—Tre manages to hit the target thanks to a blueberry buttermilk-cured scallop ceviche adorned with burnt orange slices and beetroot powder. Tre is thrilled about winning the Quickfire because he was probably the only chef to match the color blue with his dish.
Eden explains the specifics of this week’s elimination challenge. At BMO Field, the chefs will be grilling on the sidelines while the participants alternately pick up soccer balls to learn what protein will be handed to each of them. Aside from Martine, who chose to marinade Miami (or “Korean”) short ribs in a pineapple concoction, which overly breaks down the thin pieces of meat, there aren’t many cooks to worry about while they prepare their dishes.
Dez is praising the glories of her allotted meat, which feels strange. As she prepares plates for the judges, she gushes about how exquisite her cheddar biscuits are and appears slightly overconfident. Tre is preparing a grilled rib eye with escabeche; Chris is preparing a marinated pork skewer and quinoa salad, and Vish is preparing a curry-spiced kofta.
Camilo is grilling prawns with a red pepper sauce. Everything sounds excellent, but some look more appropriate for a BBQ outside than others. In the end, Tawnya’s dish was declared the day’s winner. Although her lamb chops and potato salad were excellent, it seems that her corn rib was what ultimately gave her victory over the other contestants. She had a broad smile on her face.
Tre is the only “safe” chef, and Camilo, Dez, and Martine enter the judges’ room for a conversation. Sending Martine home is the only appropriate decision here. They are moving past the fact that her key ingredient seemed inedible after such a turbulent start to the season was challenging.
While Dez’s chicken drumstick meal didn’t fall short to the point of elimination, Camilo’s lack of a more “typical” barbecue dish seemed to miss the target. Martine has quit the competition, and only seven chefs are left to cook.
