“The Wilds” is an American drama series that was released in December 2020. The series was created by Sarah Streicher and premiered on Amazon Prime Video. So basically, the series is about a bunch of teenage girls who got trapped on an abandoned island after a plane crash. They were unaware of the fact that they were the subjects of a social experiment. As of now, the series consists of two seasons, where the second season being released on May 6, 2022. There may or may not be a possibility of a third season but let’s see. Talking about the viewer’s response, the first season got better positive reviews than the second one after the episodes were cut from ten to eight.
Now, let us move on to our topic for this blog. In this article, I am going to discuss the eighth and final episode and, on top of that, as a viewer, what you can expect if the director comes with a third season of the series. But before that, for those of you who have not seen it, take a look at the season 2 overview before you head on to the explanation of the second part.
The Wilds Season 2 Overview
Long story short, where “The Wilds” season 1 was based on the girls who were abandoned on the island, the second season is mostly focused on a bunch of boys who got lost the exact same way as the girl after the plane crash. In the second season, the situations of the boys were more dangerous than the girls. In total, eight new characters were added in the new season. The season takes up right where Nora went disappeared, and Rachel loses her right hand after a dangerous shark attack. Right after this scene, all the boys were lost on the isolated island, as stated earlier.
The storyline of the series made it clear that the whole season is going to be harsh for the boy’s team when a character expresses happiness about how the girl’s team survived fifty days, whereas the boy’s team was just thirty-four. Although season two of “The Wilds” went pretty well, the boy’s character did not seem as developed as the girl’s. Along with that involving so many characters and their back story with only an hour-long episode does not seem enough to tell the whole story. For many viewers, they claimed depending on the story, the season needed to be at least fifteen to sixteen episodes long.
Here is how The Wilds Season 2 ending went?
The entry scene of the eighth and last episode with Shelby addressing a gathering in a pub and sharing about how she lost her loved ones. As she began to sing, Tony (another character) was seen listening to her song, which makes it a signal that they were still together. But right after that, the moment gets interrupted/spoiled by Gretchen Klein, like always. Right after the scene, we were quickly moved back to the island where Shelby and Fatin are almost on their way to making a major discovery and escaping. But they were interrupted by a helicopter which was trying to stop the girl from knowing the reality. In the next scene, Gretchen has one-on-one conversations with each member of the “control group” and starts to get ready for the big day.
As the show went on, it started to go interesting. At the end of the season, all the actors are finally reacquainted. The ending of the episode demonstrates Leah leading the group to the top of the island. There the 13 young adults gathered. They got to know that these 13 teenagers weren’t alone on the brand-new island. It’s hardened that Seth is still there and has been given extra power by Gretchen.
What can a viewer expect from the series if it comes with a third season?
As The Wilds Season 2 ended from a viewer’s perspective, you can expect a third episode of the series. Though it is not confirmed yet. In the third part, Leah will now have allies to fight with rather than deal with everything alone. Being the one to lead, force, and work together to escape. In terms of romance, after Fatin’s words in the finale, it would make sense to make Leah and Fatin realize there’s something in between them.
What I feel is Seth will possibly be able to make his presence known, and it will lead to an explosion. Josh will most likely have more of an upturn storyline after what happened to him on the island. Season three will likely be more about how boys and girls work together. Let’s see what happens in the next season.
