Survivor Season 44’s recent episode was high on thrills and networking but tough for the participants as they tackled severe challenges and overcame insurmountable hurdles. We will revisit the Survivor Season 44 episode 5 release date, strategy guide, and a brief recap of episode 4.
On Day 8, Soka takes part in a revitalizing post-tribal meditation by Frannie as the sun rises. Josh, in particular, is ecstatic because he is sandwiched between two strong teams. Frannie and Matt share Danny’s and Heidi’s belief that he is on their side.
Josh is dead wrong with his readings and is out of the game, which is unfortunate because both couples can agree on one thing. The others are living in a completely different reality than he is, one in which Josh is a comfortable 4-1 boot if Soka loses again, while he believes he is in charge as the swing vote.
While Carolyn gets cunning, Tika keeps having the “birdcage blues.” She plans to deceive another player into locating her false dummy idol buried under a similar X around Tika’s camp by adding sticks that are tied into an X in the trap’s bars. Sarah will soon discover the trap and take the bait without thinking twice or having second thoughts.

Survivor Season 44 Episode 4 Recap
Soka and Ratu overcome a helpless Tika in a blowout reward challenge as Carolyn is seen struggling with the slingshot. The winners receive some lovely tarps, but Soka is given a particular advantage since they came first: they get to pick one person from each tribe to visit Advantage Island.
Along with Carson and Jaime, they send Josh from their tribe—a dubious choice if they want to prevent him from gaining an edge. The three characters on Advantage Island will be the only ones to switch, unlike the entire cast participating in a full random buff draw.
It’s more of a half-baked twist than a swap, similar to the hostage crisis switch on Survivor: China, when the people changed over are so obviously losers that you wonder what the twist’s purpose is beyond screwing over the losers. As a result of giving free idols to the trio, they swap victims that expire when their tribes meet on the same beach; however, production solves this problem with a much bigger problem.
There are currently SIX active idols in the game, plus three production-made false idols, one Matthew-made false idol, Lauren’s additional vote, Matt’s lost vote, Sarah’s legacy advantage, and more than a dozen potential shot-in-the-dark attempts.
The sheer quantity of information packed into this season has completely fried my head, so there may be some other unrelated item I neglected to mention. Even the most idol-crazy super fans, who drool at the notion of a delicious idol play each week, would find it too much.
Despite the idol surplus, the edit must focus on new dynamics due to the “swap” in play. On Tika, Joshpretends to be a lamb sacrificed to the lions because he believes he must use his idol to overcome a setback.
He lies and says he’s a personal trainer when the older Tikas wonder if he’s a surgeon because his tribe mentioned that his work required “steady hands” during a previous task. If the switch-screwing isn’t sufficient justification, Sarah recognizes his deception for what it is, and soon Carolyn and Yam agree to give him the old revolving door treatment for his shadiness.
On Ratu, Carson is welcomed with open arms and begins his plan to keep the cast from realizing his full range of abilities. Even though he’s been the one courting Tika and using the greatest influence, he’s content to paint Yam Yam as the true puppeteer of the tribe.
Matthew isn’t as excited to get that information as the others, but it fits directly into Ratu’s assumptions. After all the effort he put into working with Jaime, she disappeared, leaving him without the figures again. But that only means he needs to use his charm to quickly connect with Carson and gain his trust by sharing details about Jaime’s completely genuine, unfaked idol.
