Story Until Now
The story begins with Kang Mo running to his house scared. Someone knocks on the door, and thinking that’s his mother, he opens it. He finds that it is him, perhaps a ghost that looks alike. The next moment his mother arrives, and he is dead. Ku Sanyeong is seen protecting people from committing suicide. Her mother has recently lost money to a voice phisher, and they have a hard time to payback to the landlady.
The two leave for a place unexpectedly, and her mother confesses lying about Sanyeong’s father’s death years ago. In reality, he has died now, and the two are going for the last rites.
Sanyeong meets her grandmother, who hands over her a burnt ribbon as per Kang Mo’s last wish. Sanyeong feels something different. Hae Sang arrives there, and the two have a brief encounter.
Later, he tells her she is possessed. The tally of death begins with people dying in a suspicious and similar manner. Sanyeong begins to see ghosts in the mirror. She faces the demon that has possessed her.
Sanyeong and Hae Sang leave for Jangjin-ri. They get to know about a weird ritual followed there of hanging the deceased in a drum on a tree. Later, people committed suicide by hanging from the branches of that tree.
Both of them see the shadow of this pine tree with corpses hanging and one empty rope, which means one more person will die soon. Sanyeong is also found smiling at a crime spot and is possessed.
She goes to a bridge where she murmurs some numbers to Hae Sang. After gaining consciousness, the next day, they go to her father’s house for information. Tae Young also gives her information about her father. Later, they get to know about a ritual followed in Baekchagol village. Both of them arrive in that village to find spirits roaming around.
